Clan Drivers Club
Discussion
I am getting bombarded by targeted advertising for this:
https://clandrivers.club/
Does anyone know anything more about it? Is it legit?

Thought it was going to be Clan Crusader OC sort of a thing.
No not quite. £60 a pop to join and you get a keyring and a sticker. Promising organised events and drives. If there turns out to be a good bunch of events I'd be keen, but nothing listed on the website.
Never heard of them either.
Mark Ryan has always organised good events via Driving Scotland outwith the traditional single-marque clubs - https://drivingscotland.com/

Thanks will have a look. Mark Ryan has always organised good events via Driving Scotland outwith the traditional single-marque clubs - https://drivingscotland.com/
The issue I have is that most clubs are snooty and only interested in exotica. My humble Golf R Estate doesn't cut it, albeit it has 400 bhp. Or they are arranged around a weekend of £400 a night hotels, which is fine if you are driving your AMR Aston up from Surrey. Not if you live in Scotland and want to go out for a day.
I have enjoyed the couple of PH runs there was a few years ago and the Tartan Tarmac breakfast meets. But have not managed to find a regular group/club.
Might give this one a go.
There are/were annual fundraising events for CLAN called SuperCLAN, not certain but not impossible that these things are related. One of the SuperCLAN organisers is or was a PHer, he used to stay across the road from me but they moved and I don't have contact details for him or I'd ask.
I had a look at the website, the application form has boxes for your car make, model and reg and there's text at the top saying "Accepted members will be notified by email – all fees are to be paid on acceptance." Slightly put me off a bit TBH and also the £60 fee, not sure what you're actually getting for that which you don't get for free elsewhere.

nothing to do with them but did notice them on Instagram as 'club.clan'
a few posts showing members cars so will give you an idea of the sort of cars attending their events
Thanks for that. Looks like a good mix of hot hatches, M cars, AMGs and a few Porsches. The right kind of mix in my mind for good Scottish drives. Nothing too exotic to be precious about dissolving in the rain and salt. Enough genuine-looking Instagram accounts that I am going to give it a gamble and sign up. I will report back to what happens. a few posts showing members cars so will give you an idea of the sort of cars attending their events

Please do - always good to hear some feedback as to how the club is etcWell, subs paid, very quick email received from the organiser Andy, added to private FB group, which is active enough on the introductions front, folks posting pictures of their cars etc. Around 10 dates on the agenda for the summer listed in the calendar with a mixture of Sunday drives and a couple of evening fish and chips type runs. In summary, all looks legit, the proof will be in the quality of the organisation, events and If it continues beyond the initial 10 listed events. So far so good.

Where are the events based - all over, or mostly central?Focused around the majority of the membership being central belt. But they are quite far ranging with destinations from Dumfriesshire, Galloway, Oban, Glencoe, Aviemore & Deeside. Starts in Stirling, Perth as well as central belt. One of them was an Aviemore start too.
Plus if you are further North you can join up with the Highlands Driving Club and really get out and up north for some real fun!

Sounds similar to what we all used to do here on pistonheads. Rubs would set off from glasgow or edinburgh and end somewhere for lunch. A run to Oban sticks in my mind. We all set off from our home areas. TheEdinburgh run and Glasgow run met at tge green welly before proceeding to Oban. The Aberdeen people picked up the group from Inverness and proceeded across to Oban. After lunch we all split up and made our way back home.
In fact heres the thread for it with pics included. It was 2008

It was taking a bit of a pounding on the Scottish Porsche owners FB page. Think one of the founders is a member there.
I guess the £60pa fee prevents all sorts of riffraff joining in but at the same time I've got to wonder what I'm actually getting out of it even at that price. I dare say some marque soecific groups aren't that active in getting together for drives so probably pick more of those types up.

I signed up a few months ago. Lots of different cars and so far a great bunch. Some Porsches, some golf gti's and golf r's, Ford rs's my m235i, a Mclaren. Its a normal car club with plenty of variety. There was even a guy in a Porsche Cayenne and a lad in a 1.5 Merc c200. There's another small trip this Sunday... Give it a try
