I have a problem a big problem. I am an addict, I look at cars 25/8 if I'm not looking at cars I'm thinking/dreaming about cars.
Do I need a car? Nope, what type of car do I want? Don't know anything cheap.
I'm currently considering a old Bentley, old Jag, Prius, Clio 182 and some classic cars, 4x4, camper even looked at a yacht and a caravan.
I've even considered buying a welder so I can fix up these cheap cars.
I convince myself I need a new car when I live around 5 miles from my workplace.
Can someone share their experience of being an addict or am I alone?

Regret bitterly a few I have sold and have not sold anything since 2010. I have one more new car planned and will only get rid of something when it is no longer economical to repair. Oldest is 2003, newest 2018,and will add a 2022.

Not addicted to buying them but certainly to looking at them, thinking about them etc.
Always surfing Autotrader etc. looking at what I'd like to get next, checking out brochures comparing specifications, performance, kit etc.
I could easily spend all day in the garage either tinkering with the cars or just having a cuppa / beer and looking at them, recalling trips and journeys in them, the sound they make, (especially after a hard run when they sit there ticking as they cool down) what the next job is etc.
I'm a totally lost cause and have been for over 40 years........

I can relate to the first part of that quote... not even for any sentimental/regret reasons, just simply the effort of selling a car that can't be punted onto WBAC is soul-destroying. I describe my cars honestly (sometimes too honestly), price them relatively low, and in the past they've all sold relatively quickly without much hassle. So now the problem is when I look at a car for £2k, that I'd use, then maybe want to move on in a years time, even if it's a car I know will still be worth £1-1.5k then, i have to mentally write off the entire £2k or at least most of it, as I can't be bothered with selling it and on cars at this level, any attempt to WBAC it will result with a £150 offer at best...
I've scrapped at least 5 cars (end of life/not particularly valuable ones of course) in the past which could easily have brought in more money via stripping for parts or even selling as a non-runner. But at least I didn't have to deal with the ballache of selling.
Next car to go will be a good condition 10 year old Toyota IQ, which will be listed privately - I'm already filling with dread...
I used to be back in the late 90s, early 2000s I was always thinking about the next car I was going to buy. It was so bad at one point I was buying a brand new car every 18 months, the process used to be.
1)Imagine how great it would be if I had car X.
2)Start getting excited, start investigating the car, order the dealer brochures, join the car forum.
3)Just "go for a look" at the car, end up ordering one. Lose thousands in depreciation on the current car, but what the hell YOLO and the new car will make it all worth it.
4)Weeks of exciting sleepless nights waiting for the car to arrive.
5)Collect the car, best day ever.
6)Month later the novelty of the new car has worn off.
7)Six months in start to notice all the annoying things about the car.
8)Six months later read about car Y and think how great it sounds.
9)Goto 1, rinse and repeat.
For me it was all about the buzz, but that buzz is very, very expensive and ultimately ends up just being another car.
Now I drive a shed, I won't change it until it gets weighed in.

Any excuse to spend all day on Autotrader to be honest. At the moment looking to get the missus a new car which is added excitement 
I'm big into modifying so get the added pleasure of hunting down mods I want, thinking what to do next... I've already decided what wheels I want for a car I'm going to buy in a few years time lol.

You've got to ignore the urge, I guess when you get them you soon get bored? Alternatively start buying die-cast models instead - would be a lot cheaper...
I've always enjoyed collecting, maybe a character trait. So hard to fight the urge when you have a spare slot on the drive and cars come up for a good price.

Quick look on eBay for a cheap Aston Grille, dab of superglue and there you go, an easy £30k.Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
