Anyone have any leads on reliable and reasonable S85 mech in Essex area..... by that i do not mean any of the so called engine replacement firms operating out of Dagenham unless someone can chime in with a genuine approval

i dont know the full scope of my problem yet but my car dropped a valve on cylinder 10 so thats just for starters....car is 52k miler and i might be going the route of crank rod bearings and vanos refresh if the engine has to come out

still might go the Mr Vanos route but he is a ways off up north

This is always caused by over rev ! Dropping gear to quick and bouncing on the limiter. Repaired one before never again.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, I had the same problem with my E63 M6 and the fault manifested itself also at about 70 mph on the M25, no over revving in my ownership (i'd had it about 4 months when this happened) and at lower miles than yours so maybe "Always" isn't quite so bang on as suggestedrolleyes

Fortunately for me I had the Insured Warranty so it only cost me £100 XS but I think the final bill was £7K+ , no doubt the main dealer didn't try to economise in any way.

Good luck with getting it sorted

I'm not quite sure how you over rev an SMG car, when it will not allow such a downshift command?

My engine was rebuilt by Mr Vanos. You could try Hack Engineering, but I don't know much about them.

I may end up going the Mr Vanos route for reputation alone

It is possible to drop a gear while hovering around the red line I’m afraid. Not advisable, as for babying the car not so bad if your the only owner. Sometimes it’s just bad luck tho but still a fairly rare issue.
