Griff, Cerbera or Tuscan?

I am returning to the TVR fold and would like to know peoples opinions of buying and owning a Griffith 500, an early Tuscan or a Cerbera 4.2

Running and servicing costs are obviously very important and how much is it going to cost to services these vehicles each year?

Is it worth spending as much as possible on the car or saving a bit back to cover servicing and running costs

I havent owned a Tuscan but have owned a Cerb speed six ( driven many 4.2s) and a griff 500.

overall I would have the cerb, as long as its a goodie, but nothing wroing witht he griff.

very subjective question as everyone here will have a differing opinion.

Hi - I went from a 98' Griff 500 to a 03 Tuscan and haven't looked back. As with all things the newer the model the better the build quality, and personally I prefer ther targa roof of the tuscan to the fold down of the griffith. Try and go for a 03 onwards Tuscan as the older one can have had problems with the followers in the Sp6 engine (see the neverending forums!!) Probably quite hard to find a griffth in really good nick unless you go for one of the last ones, whereas I have found the Tuscan to be so much more of a complete car in nearly all aspects. Regular servicing is important so make sure you keep circa £800 spare each time to get this done properly. Never driven a Cerbie but thats my two pennies worth!!

You are mistaken my dear fellow. This was cleared up ages ago.

From the list it'd have to be the Cerbera for me.

The Griff is well, just too Griffy. Although you don't say how old you are, if you're over 50 then it'll be fine

The Tuscan looks great but the noise from the front end puts me off

The Cerbie I have driven and loved every mile in it and is my pick of the bunch. Watch this space

What's up with the Chimaera?
Classic good looks and only gets better with age, it has the right engine in it and looks great (and is faster) in blue.

Tantalisingly close Al. But very much depends on what we decide to do with our old house. Sell it and a Cerbie is on the way. Give it to Ash and the Cerbie will have to wait, both have their advantages as you might imagine

I'm looking at an 03 Tuscan (probably built late 02) and am hoping the usual S6 problems won't come back and haunt me.

Does anyone have any stats about newer models going bang etc?

This thread is worth a read, it would seem even the 03 cars can go pop too. A large main dealer was also telling me few weeks back that they new of one dealer that had had five SP6 engines go in short succession, didn’t say how old they were but put it down to lack of driver education on the dealers part. I got the impression he was talking about new cars but I may be wrong.

Had a Griff and loved every minute of ownership, now had a cerb for almost a year and I have to say the griff does not even come close to the cerb, the car is the NUTS, look great, pulls like a train, pops and bags, everyone looks, car windows open as you pass and so far 6k miles and she aint missed a beat.

IMHO the best TVR ever made
