Hiya,

Noticed that a few of you have smaller places on your Monaros which fit the recess properly. I'm aware there may be legal issues, but i fnacy doing it anyway...

So i was wondering where did you get it from? Is it a 370mm wide one? Ive seen a few websites but their standard size closest is 355mm wide?

Cheers for the help...

very much appreciated!

I would expect that you could get away with calling the Monaro an 'Import' for this excercise.

On the Commodore/HSVs the gap is 390mm so I believe most have 380mm plates.

According to the DVLA (www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regmarks/reg_marks_current_requirements.htm ) the registration marks on imported vehicles (which have a restricted space for a standard sized number plate) are:

Character Height: 64mm
Character Width: 44mm
Character Stroke: 10mm
Space between characters: 10mm

You should be able to pick the plates up at any good motorist discount store or:

www.gtgrafix.com

Alternatively just trim the current one to size and sand the edges & corners.

I have a three-quarter size front plate which looks great and fits much better.
A Northern Ireland company do them but I've forgotten who now.
Fancyplates.com or something.

PS

They are illegal, in theory, for the road.

my local spares shop in Abingdon made a set for me (M8 HSV) for my new UK rego (mind u I'm leavin the Oz plates on right up to the 6 month limit - gotta luv speed camera immunity!)

They have the blue GB EU thingy on one end & slightly smaller characters but are actually legal as my car is a personal import. I can measure them & re-post 2 night but they are only a few mm larger than the flat space provided on the front bar. (mine has the same body kit as a VXR so it may differ if yrs is a normal Munro. Should fit well though and I'm happy with the 15 quid price. I can give you the guys details if u like?

Thanks guys... have ordered one in the standard legal font, but the ratios been reduced so the plate is 365mm wide by what ever it works out at deep!

I think it should be alright.. can always play dum with the police if i get stopped as it will fit perfectly in the recess and back ones legal size anyway!

but thanks for the feed back guys, and NO.. Dan never sorted that one he he!!!
