Streetfighter V4S or Z H2?
Discussion
I've ridden the Z H2 and loved the torque and the amazing noises and I could probably live with the f*ckugliness of it. At £15k(ish), it's not bad value, though I'd probably want to factor in the cost of a steering damper.
I haven't ridden a V4S, nor have I ever owned a Ducati, so: Are running costs still a bit of a shocker when compared to a Japanese bike of similar ilk? Are the horror stories of reliability happily dismissed as anecdotal fluff? Any ownership experiences would be good to hear.

The Kawasaki is a bit of a funny one isn’t it? It’s not really comparable with the current crop of nakeds, it’s more of a muscle bike from what I can make out.
What do you want from a bike?
I’ve only owned one ducati (899) before I bought it I was the same as you, after much research I came to the conclusion modern Ducati’s are just as reliable as anything else.
Running costs can be a bit more though but nothing too horrendous.

Everyday running costs aren't particularly more, they're not any worse on tyres or use significantly more fuel, but service costs are eye watering sometimes!Running costs can be a bit more though but nothing too horrendous.
Reliability-wise, I don't know anyone who has had major issues with a Ducati bought in the last 10 years; the usual silly niggles like switches, the odd leaky gasket, fork seals etc, but none of them have dropped their guts on the roadway or spewed oil over the rear tyre.

I'd definitely want to test ride each of them to know for sure. All of them are pretty well built these days, the V4 Ducati motor is a free years old now so they've ironed out the niggles.
Absolutely. I really want to ride a V4S but it's not so easy at the moment, sadly. All depends what the lead times on production are, too.I've owned 6 Ducatis..
Never had any issues with them
When I first rode my 749 I hated it ..so different from Jap bikes but after a couple of weeks loved it ...
One test ride might not be enough ..
For me Dukes are the best but I'm a little biased..
Have a Monster 1200S at the mo..but V4S Street fighter is not far away ...just let the prices settle on used ones when a few more turn up

Not that it needs it, but remember that it's easy to get the ZH2 flashed to give around 220 bhp with little more than a high flow filter and a new end can. My H2 SX delivers 219 bhp, does around 48mpg and will pull top from 30 mph with ease.
As you say, it doesn't really need it. I really enjoyed my time on the Z H2. I was expecting it to be a bit fat and wallowy, given its 240kg but it hides its weight well. Then again, ultimately, I figured it'd be worth the money just for the amazing noises it makes.BaronMcLaren said:
Like one of the other poster above I’ve never had a single problem with any new Ducati;
2008 999R Xerox
2012 1199S
2014 Superleggera
2017 1299
Trying to decide between a Hypermotard RVE, RSV4 Factory (2020MY) & F3 RC800 at the moment.
V4R depreciating too quickly to be a viable option.
MV all the way, I don’t think there is a better looking bike out there. 2008 999R Xerox

new tuono factorys going for good prices.
I briefly owned a V4 in the U.K. Currently have a Tuono Factory. Even before thinking about value for money the Tuono about the best bike I’ve owned. Power, handling, noise, ease of use, relatively comfortable. It isn’t perfect and I wouldn’t use it for long touring or commuting but as a bike for weekend rides it is difficult to beat. I paid about £13k for mine (before almost obligatory Akrapovic) - seems like really good value for money when compared with V4S street fighter (or race reps).Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
