Ciao a tutti. Can I use my contactless UK debit card, or better yet, google pay at most petrol stations in Italy?

Yep, NFC is found basically in any of the major fuel brands.

You will find that BP and Q8 are fine but some of the smaller independents can be a bit hit and miss with what they take and how efficient the processor is.

Make sure you have a €50 note or two to feed a prepay slot if you are planning to be out in the sticks out of “servito” hours.

Ah, good knowledge. I'll take tenners, though. My bike has a comparatively big tank but it's still only 21 litres!

Another thing we have is 100 octane fuel at Q8 and Shell, good stuff.

Last time I was in italy (naples area) , I found it difficult to find petrol station that would take cash. It was all pay at the pump with debit or credit card.

I think it depends where you are. Up in Piedmont, where my place is, there is probably considerably less risk of armed robbery than down south, so paying with cash is more welcome, especially with the mom and pop operators.

You will be fine, just think ahead a little bit and refuel when you will be at a major brand station. I also think there is basically a law stating that ALL petrol stations HAVE to accept cards, exactly because one should not be stranded for the lack of paper money.

And Enia. But the 100 octane is difficult to find. Most petrol stations only carry the 95 octane stuff.
