Please do excuse what is likely to be a very dense question!

Is there a product on the market that acts as a standalone music streamer, and connects directly to Spotify (or other similar service)? That is, without any need to use another device, such as a tablet, mobile telephone or computer, as a gateway?

I can find various devices that play music stored locally on a network, or that I can connect my computer or telephone to. I don't want that, I want something that plays directly from a streaming service.

Does such a thing exist and, if so, what is it called?

How do you propose to browse through the Spotify screens? Most, if not all, the products I know would require at least a smart phone to work as a remote control.

What about connectivity? Do you have wifi or is that barred as well?

At the most basic level, what you require IS a smartphone or tablet.

I’d suggest a google for ‘network streamers’. I’ve been thinking about one for a while, but they aren’t cheap!

Something like the Cambridge Audio CXN V2 would probably suit, it has a colour screen, but I don’t know exactly how you would load up the music gubbins.

It has all of the usual streaming apps built in, so presumably just log in and you can browse your playlists and you’re away. Naim also do some, but they’re silly money, in my opinion

Might be worth looking at Plex.

Sonos?

But you'll need a pc/phone/tablet to do the initial setup, but after that you'll just need to hit the play button on the sonos speaker (until something gets updated or throws a fit, then you'll need the pc/phone/tablet again).

Isn’t this what all smart speakers do (when setup)?

Or have I misunderstood the question?

What is the use case your trying to implement?

Google/Alexa devices can do that,

I've got several Google mini around the house, literally walk upto it and say "hey google play the beatles" and it plays.

It is easier however to control it from phone, as I often cast it to a group of speakers.

I don't know. I'm not hugely tech savvy!

Simply put, I want to be able to use/play Spotify without having to use my phone or computer as an interface. I don't (and don't want to) use a smartphone much, and it's a bit of a pain digging out the computer every time I want to play any music. What this means is I rarely listen to music.

Yes, I have WiFi and decent broadband. I don't want to use a smartphone or tablet (or computer).

Perhaps physical media is for me!

Smart speaker (sonus/Amazon/Google/whatever)
Buy. Configure to attach to your WiFi and give it your Spotify account details. Then just talk to it when you want some music.

An 'smart' device as mentioned, i use the amazon echo and have a few dotted around the house for this purpose but mainly they play the radio.

for the HiFi I have a Majority Fitzwilliam 2 from amazon that works well for it's price point
