Hi, I’ve another thread running about upgrading my TV and this is linked. Does a 4K TV need a special HDMI cable? I have HDMI cables embedded in the wall bit they are 4 years old and it would be a real pain to have to change them...

Think I read something online saying you needed different ones?

To get the best out of it you may have to, but try it and see first.
If you can turn the colour space/ bit depth down it may help (depending on source).

Any idea what quality they are?

HDMI 1.3 cables could run into slight issues, I had sound distortion when watching at 4K, upgraded to 2.0 and all good.

If you're lucky it'll be marked on the run where your cable is exposed.

If they are 4 years old they should be 1.4 at least.

Thanks folks. I’ve no idea what cables they are and can’t see anything on them. Might need to be a fingers crossed purchase

I just bought a 'Premium HD Ultra High Speed 4K' cable - presume that will be up to scratch?

The HDMI numbers refer only to the spec of the equipment not the cables.

As long as the cable is rated high speed (almost all will be) it will handle 4K.

Only spend more money on long cable lengths.
