Google maps gets my vote. Familiar interface, and you download the maps so they work even when you're offline.

Only negative is if you miss a waypoint it can get tricky to re-route, especially offline, so choose them carefully.

Used for five years or so and many thousands of miles. Two years with an iPhone 8 incidentally.

I'm a Google Maps user too, with Offline maps downloaded to the phone.

You can add 'stops' to your overall journey planning if you want to force it to set a route that takes in minor twisty roads, rather than the quickest/shortest routing that it will automatically.

I even used Google Maps on my phone on a biking holiday in Vietnam.

For trail riding I use the ViewRanger app with OS mapping.

I've yet to use it due to covid but I've downloaded Calimoto which is a bike specific Sat Nav app where you can specify how twisty/bike friendly you want the route to be.

I stumbled across it on YouTube looking at some bike reviews and one of the reviewers was using it as he road across Spain. It is chargeable but you get your first map free, worth a punt if nothing else.

I use google maps regularly for UK ad-hoc use but find Tom Tom Go better for offline use in patchy coverage areas so for longer trips abroad I pay the £1.99 subscription smile

It's going to depend how you want to use it.

ie
Are you just using it for simple get you from A to B quickly?
OR
Are you planning a whole tour away & want to travel a very exact route keeping to chosen roads?
Are there other features you want included such as safety cameras, hotels, fuel stations?
etc etc.

For getting somewhere - Waze

For a quick fun ride that's intuitive to use - Calimoto

This came up a while ago. I think it was Dibble who suggested ‘Co Pilot’ as a good app.
I’ve yet to try it due to the virus and not biking.
Google maps really boils my urine. It changes the route on you, takes you down ste roads that save no time. I want to like it but it really is the work of the devil. In an emergency I would use it, but not for planning. Even putting in additional stop points doesn’t always make it take the roads you want. It will go to them then double back on itself. Okay, it might be me not interfacing correctly, I still hate it!

I do a lot of route planning for tours etc & often want to stay on specific routes, so I use myrouteapp (which is a web/cloud based route creator that comes from the Dutch guys who used to provide TYRE). You can also get a Navigation app in the package that seamlessly links with the route creator & plucks the routes from the cloud (maps downloaded to phone so not needing to use data for actual navigating. I use this when using the phone on the bike which is for single days out, but I also use myrouteapp to send the routes to Garmin/TomTom Sat navs when on tours.

In the car using the phone for direct A to B (not a specific pre created & planned route) I favour TomTom Go if not using the above.

You recommended it before and I had a trial - it might be great when you're used to it but I found it useless, I tried it 3 times and it simply didn't navigate, every other Nav is intuitive but this just wasn't

If you take a trial they regularly send discounts of up to 50% off - which may be of use if it works for you.

myrouteapp isn't navigating software, it's route planning/creating/sharing/distributing software (as TYRE was but it's web cloud based). You create the routes in it & then transfer them to satnav or phone based nav app.
myrouteapp do a separate phone 'navigation' app, that can be separate or bundled with myrouteapp.

You can create routes in the stand alone myrouteapp 'navigation' app too, but it has nowhere near the flexibility & features of myrouteapp.

I use OsmAnd and find it really good.
Make the GPX file in Calimoto on the pic then transfer it to OsmAnd on my phone.
