I didn't see any topics on this already. Like most, I saw the article in MCN here https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/new-bikes/yama...

I like the look of the concept bike:

I've only ever ridden the MT-07 on one occasion but quite enjoyed it.

Obviously this won't be able to compare to the R6 but think it could be a successful, cheaper version of the Aprilia 660.

There is already a faired version of the MT03 and MT125, so its entirely possible, and another way to eek out more sales of the CP2 engine. Blasphemy if they called it the R7 like the fairing suggests though.

In no way could it step into the shoes of the R6.

Seems to be a segment developing of sports and semi naked bikes around 650-700 all parallel twin but more geared towards the performance area

I'd says its the new SV650S if anything (and thats a good thing) and keep the power the same. I know thats Suzuki but more from a type-perspective

Will sell like hot cakes if they keep the price within a grand of the MT-07.

Be interesting to see if they do an MT09 one as well.

This. Look at it - basic brakes and likely the awful suspension the MT-07 has.

Completely agree with the R7 comment.

Yep, it’s a bit misleading calling it an R7 I guess. Looks a nice bike though bar the budget suspension and brakes.

Isn't just following on from what Honda did with the CBR650 being a Hornet with some clip ons and a fairing?

Would rather see them do this with the MT-09 which is much closer to R6 performance.

Like others have said - the brakes and suspension on the MT-07 are just horrible.

Thinking TRX850 again - good idea, not very well executed due to run of the mill components - didn't sell then but a good 600 could be bought at the time.

Alternative to the Aprillia, will be interesting to see, Yamaha will have to get the price right (which they have a habit off getting wrong in the past - FJR, GTS but then again they got the price right with the MT range).

Are the brakes really that bad or is it just a learner friendly pad compound? I remember these calipers gracing Thundercats/Aces R6's and FZ-1's and always thought they were decent with proper pads in them.

Nice looking concept. I wish more manufacturers offered faired versions of their naked bikes with a sensible riding position!

The Honda is a far nicer bike with decent brakes & over 90 BHP. I don't think you can really compare the two as the Honda is IL4 & the Yam a twin....

I'd be all over this like a rash if it comes to life. Its right up my street. A sporty(ish) bike that you can spank at less than license loosing speeds. I know its wishful thinking but triumph could do the same with the trident as well.

The calipers in the mockup are the four piston ones, and these still cut the mustard today. Unfortunately this is the MCN mockup and if the bike goes into production it will probably have two piston sliding calipers.

I'd like to think they would use the normal MT07 ones, which are the 4 piston ones, which were fitted to the updated MT07 for 2021

Its an interesting bike though.
