Expired ITV on a Spanish registered car
Discussion
I've got an old (2002) Suzuki Jimny that I keep at my place in Spain. The ITV expired in June 2020 and because of you know what I'm unable to get there and get it tested.
The car is taxed and insured, on my private drive and of course not being driven. I don't have anyone nearby who can get it tested for me.
Does anyone know if I'm committing an offence by not obtaining a new ITV?

Possibly it is technically an offence but not one that will give you any problems. I have frequently had one or more cars with expired ITV and it was always fine. If stopped by the police with no ITV whilst driving, it is not a biggie. The fine is €100 if paid within 20 days and you can still have insurance, even if ITV is expired. There was a huge ITV backlog due to COVID which is clearing now, although a strike by workers at the station in Malaga has caused additional problems.
What used to happen was if you were late was that you still got a year’s ITV from the day the new test was done. I was a month late with a car due to COVID and they just gave me 11 months ITV. Not sure if this is the new normal?

Many thanks for your reassuring comments.
Hopefully, I'll be able to get down there sometime this year and I was fearing that I would be welcomed by finding a fine in the post!
As mentioned, mine expired in June 2020. It'll be interesting if I have tested again in say July 2021, it will have expired before it started if they only give me 12 months validity from the previous expiration date!

they dont take anything into account, its what the computer tells them and thats that.
there was a box pop up on the viesa site, that said something along the lines of a "mixto" - berlingo or similar - could actually have to have an itv 3 times in one year due to the way that it works.
I do 2 or 3 itv´s a week normally in my job, but its all been stopped for months, i´ve only done a couple.
mine ran out and i´ve not been driving the car. i went in with it finally last week.. and their computer gave me the 10% discount for paying early ? work that one out, its been expired for months.
if yours expired in june 20, you have until the 15.01-01.03 to do it. list is here : https://itvcitaprevia.es/prorroga-itv-estado-alarm...
there is no longer a pro-roga (extension) and any itvs expiring now are subject to the normal times.
