Most AM are "sportscars" ..even by their own definition they are a sportscar manufacturer....although in recent years there are plans for "supercars" like the Valkyrie

...of course it depends on your definition...you also see some magazines calling Porsche 911s and Vantages "entry level supercars" and the word "hypercar" is used for what used to be high end supercars ......

because they dont make supercars. Simple! AM mostly make Grand Tourers and Sports cars. Although there isnt a strict definition of a supercar, it normally means mid engined, 2 seater, exotic and very fast. Think mclaren. Nothing AM does is a supercar until the new Vanquish or son of Valkyrie come out.

I've never thought of them as super cars, despite some friends asking me what it was like to own a supercar. I have always thought of them as GT car and thats how I have responded to the super car question.

As long as there's a heading in the list somewhere for AM I really don't care.
As above, one reason I like AMs is because they're less ostentatious than other marques I could mention.

Because everyone in the supercar section knows that neither Astons (nor R8s if you really want to troll them) are supercars:

Not fast enough
Not expensive enough
Not exclusive enough
GTs etc are automatically disqualified
The presence of ‘non-qualifying” vehicles in the range renders Aston ineligible.

Candidly, I don’t think the owners on here can be bothered to argue the toss because it really doesn’t matter...

A supercar must have 3 seats or fewer, and a mid-engine of at least 8 cylinders.

So the new ford gt isn’t a supercar

Because we would end up with the perpetual question of whether it is or isn't a supercar, like every owner of an R8 seems to want to establish.

Neither are, IMO.

Presumably because Aston Martin do not produce supercars.

Heh heh - Thought that would provoke a reaction. OK, if not V8 then should have at least 400 BHP.

Any advances on 400 BHP?

wink

Must admit I have always thought of Aston's as "supercars", but I also don't loose any sleep over what section PH have put the marque... wink

Please tell me no! They can’t possibly be? Sports cars and Grand Touring Cars surely.

Reason being I don’t typically care much for supercars and feel I would look a right wally in one leave aside fitting in one in the first place!l

Then again being a child of the 80s the only “real” supercars are the F40, 959, XJ220, Diablo, EB110, all crowned off by the F1. After that they all seem a touch try hard, but what do I know? Hypercar? How naff! 😂

Someone confirm either way once and for all!

You chose the wrong one.

Two seats? Check
Over 400 bhp? Check
8 cylinders? Check
Over 4 litres? Check

I've always thought of Astons (even the Vantage) as being more GT than Sports Car, never mind 'super car', with the obvious exception now of the DBX.

Would I like to drive the Stelvio Pass in an F40, of course. Would I want to drive there and back in it to do so, no thanks.

^^^^ This! I'm an Aston fan, always have been but they are not a 'supercar' manufacturer. Sports maybe but more GT cars and not supercar.

How about Mercedes SLR? I've had an Aston, I've driven many, they are a lovely place to be but on the whole they are not a supercar. I thought that Aston Martin may have it's own page heading maybe ala Ferrari or TVR especially when I had one wink but not in 'supercar'. Astons for me are about 'class'. Always fought the British corner here, just being honest.
