Hi Vicky,

I can help.

What is your budget are you looking at Petrol or Diesel?

I can then narrow down the advice by model and budget.

My son had one from new through a pcp deal when the first scrappage scheme was on the go. It was very good, better than I expected really and he really liked it. No problems that I can recall. After a couple of years he got a job with Mercedes Sales, company car included. They took over ownership of the Mito and sold it on, must be some way the trade can do that.

My Wife has run one for about 5 years now. A 2009 Veloce Lusso with the 155hp engine, going from 30,000 to 70,000 miles.

She loves it, and it's never broken down, but it has had quite a lot of pre-emptive maintenance. I just spent £300 having the electric steering module rebuilt, and in the past 2 years it's needed all 4 brake calipers replacing, all 4 wheel bearings, ball joints, the boost recirculation valve, both window motors and I've had to replace a portion of the wiring harness at it snapped in half at the boot hinge. It now has some sort of water leak I need to trace.

Much of the above are 'wear' items that do have an expected lifetime, but the 4 piston front calipers were £350 each, and at 60,000 miles I was a bit disappointed, similarly with the wheel bearings. I've never replaced a wheel bearing on a car younger than 80,000 miles or so. I get the feeling that the 'lifetime' Alfa test for isn't as long as others might.

However, I'm not getting rid of it, she still loves it, and by the time I've done all this work, I'm hoping to have eradicated all the faults!
