Mazda 6 vs Skoda Superb

Just looking for some advice on a couple of cars I'm interested in -

1 Mazda 6 2.2D Sport with 175ps, about 30k miles, 2017.
2 Skoda Superb 1.4 TS SE, about 16k miles, 2017

Price is about 800 cheaper for the Mazda. I like the look of it more and like the torque from a diesel. I'm just concerned about potential DPF issues, although maybe overthinking it as I would do a good few longer journeys each month on the motorway of at least 30 mins.
Any owners of those cars and engines have any advice on which to choose?

I'm a fan of the 1.4 TSI VAG engine - it's even quite nippy in something like a Golf or a Leon - but I'm not sure I'd recommend it in something the size of a Superb.

I think it'd be acceptable when empty, but assuming you're buying a car that size because you may sometimes be carrying 4/5 people plus luggage, I can't imagine it would offer anything like the same performance as the 2.2 diesel in the Mazda.

I'd do a bit of research on the Mazda 6 diesels if I were you.

I'm sure I've hear a few times now that they have much trouble with DPF's and injector issues.

And I've seen some rusty arches on cars that I wouldn't have expected to have seen for their age.

Isn't the Superb quite a bit bigger than a 6?

A big estate with a smaller petrol engine versus a smaller estate with a larger diesel engine seems a odd pair to compare?

Superb for me. Huuuge inside. Easy and intuitive controls.

The 1.4 TSI is a gem with 150 bhp which should give well over 40mpg on a run. Lovely quiet, smooth engine too.

Also not a fan of diesel. The noise........

Each to their own of course.

There have been quite a few horror stories about the 2.2 diesel engine Mazda use on this forum and others, petrols seem to be quite reliable/solid options.

The 2013 onwards Mazda 6 2.2's are the "Skyactiv D" models and mine has been pretty reliable. I believe the DPF can be regenerated as low as 30 something MPH. Mine has been reliable enough although mine did have some fuel dilution when the 6.5L of oil it's meant to have filled my 8L oil pan over the course of about 18,000 miles in a year. Otherwise it's quick enough, comfy and being the super mega NAV+ thing, it has every option apart from speed limiter, sunroof and radar cruise control. The only reason I'm looking at switching cars is because I'm (hopefully) going to be working from home permanently soon and I don't need a diesel to cover about 3,000 miles per year.

The 1.4 TSI 150 punches above its weight. "Superb" engine.

Having driven both I'd take the diesel Mazda in the real world the 1.4 works harder pulling the weight about & therefore the fuel suffers (it's the same with the 1.5T Mondeo) at which point you might as well have the 2.0T.

The 2013 Mazda 6's were having issues with the chain and DPF's but they should be pretty much sorted by the 2017 model year. The rest of the car is much better than anything VAG (if the Superb has the 7spd DSG i would certainly avoid that) I'd go Mazda 6 everytime.
