Has anybody done this lately or planning too? I am in EU for 18 months and looking for a good candidate to drive while here and then ship back. LHD TVR would be ideal but really hard to find. Also maybe manual S8 or 7 series.Trying to think of a nice car to use that would then be rare back in the US.

Is this a rule where you can import a car more than 25 years old and drive it on the US roads? If so I have no idea what to go for other than to suggest something Italian that sounds great like a V6 Alfa as I don't think there are many in the US or perhaps a Maserati. A TVR is also a good shout

I considered it for a while to bring in a Toyota Century from Japan or a high compression 560SEC (which I found in the US and bought anyway). In my mind, it's not been worth it as the US for the most part got the best optioned cars and there's always a better alternative to buy for less money and less hassle. If I had the same circumstance as you, I'd consider a Land Rover Defender

Don't forget to account for how much hassle the upkeep/maintenance would be for a model never sold in the US. Unlikely to be insurmountable, but bear it in mind.

Its actually not hard. No harder to get a TVR part in US that a Lotus part in reality smile

Lots of cars start to increase in value once they get close to the 25 year rule. Quite a lot of Integrale's and Skylines recently imported to US for example.

Anything Japanese that the US couldn't get by default will be safe money.

I'd be trying to find a nice Evo 5, as they turn 25 next year.

So after some research I am thinking maybe an Alfa 156 GTA. Seems to be some good LHD rust free ones.
