Pitfalls of buying a classic at an online auction?

I wondered if anyone has had their fingers burned buying a classic car from one of the growing number of internet auctions. I've heard rumours that they're not as safe as they're cracked up to be. What auction is but given they're selling remotely it would be nice to think these auctions go the extra mile to make things secure for the buyer. Personally, I'd love to have a go. Sharing any bad experiences might help alert me and others to the risks.
