Car Kit Mount - what is it?

A friend has this car kit mount in their car, but doesn't know what sort it is / what's needed to get it up and running - any ideas?

An old phone mount that is definitely redundant at this point

Are there any serial numbers on it that might link it to a manufacturer? Difficult to identify which phone would have mounted on there unless anyone recognises it

It appears that it might be a VW Touch Phone Kit, just missing the detachable screen
