Lockdown project
Discussion
fancied a bit of a project and bought some lml scooter looked like an easy project but been trying to work out what’s wrong with it which is easier said than done not being a scooter person
Automatic starts needs sorting but changed old fuel and spark flag and charged battery.
It then went on the kickstart a few times with easy start then cuts out and then the text time I tried it petrol went everywhere and all over air intake box .now doesn’t go at all
Also seemed odd that the spark plug was missing.maybe someone has already done all the same things

A scooter? What like a Vespa or Lambretta or something?
Best cure for any issues these have is a few litres of petrol and a match.
You can keep warm and you'll never annoy people again.
Yeah its one of those vespa lookalike things with automatic 4T engine.(2016 year and hardly used)Best cure for any issues these have is a few litres of petrol and a match.

Aren’t those LML scooters £1500 brand new?
If you still fancy another project after this one you will be much better off with an older jap bike than a Chinese scooter.
Hi yeah they are around £1500-1800 new but no vary in price If you still fancy another project after this one you will be much better off with an older jap bike than a Chinese scooter.
This one I got for 500 has only done 3k and very tidy .appears someone just left it for 2 years in there garden when it was due it’s first mot .not a bad thing but not built like a Honda but a convincing Vespa px copy with modern 4t engine .somehow looks like starter motor needs replacing even though hardly used
Ps it’s not as bad as Chinese stuff but still a bit junky i believe it’s made in India and Japan
Did a bit more tinkering with it earlier.now goes for longer and doesn’t cut out as quickly but still not fixed yet .it runs ok for about about a minute then stops and floods engine then won’t go again for about half hour .did put carb cleaner down It aswell .i think the carb might need replacing as the bike seems to be constantly randomly flooding and petrol goes on the floor through the carb draining thingy .
Just got it running for about 5 minutes and went through all the throttle speeds and now runs without easy start .still cuts out though without throttle and before it cut out with throttle.have cleaned the carb a bit but obviously no expert.seems as though the thing is all over the place
Apparently these are likely Chinese engines in these so probably a can of worms...seems a lot of money when they first came out (about 1900) when a Honda 125 could be bought for the same price which is far better build quality
Also been looking for another cheap project and it seems to be a common thing that sellers of 50cc-125cc machines can be completely useless or unhelpful .one of the usual things they can say it’s just needs a £15 part and easy fix and then the line that they don’t have time

I really fancy having a play with one of those LML Star 2-strokes. Made from the same tooling as the Vespa PX, a hangover from an old licensing deal. Very similar to Royal Enfield up until 2004 or so.If you still fancy another project after this one you will be much better off with an older jap bike than a Chinese scooter.

are Kymco 125 bikes worth bothering with? Apparently they have made engines for Honda in the past but still look slightly cheaply made compared to Honda
I know a kid with one. 18k miles & pulling strong! Its actually quite well made - sat outside for ages in all weather, & very little corrosion.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
