Well the statistics could do with some serious examination to see actual causes of death, to start with.

''Evidence of the UK’s higher overall death toll during the first wave of the pandemic relative to comparable countries is unequivocal. England had the highest excess all-cause mortality rate among 23 European countries in the first five months of 2020 compared with 2015-19,''

A local case, guy had tested positive, minor symptoms, did two weeks iso. Wrecked his car a week after isolation ended.

Deaded himself. As in PROPERLY dead.

Had a positive covid test fewer than 28 days prior to the crash.....goes on the figures.

.... and
...and he goes down as a Covid-19 death, where he had, in fact, fully recovered from the virus and his cause of death was entirely down to injuries received in a car crash.

If the NHS/Government can't provide accurate figures for ACTUAL cause of death, then they shouldn't be bandying these figures about as if they are the Gospel Truth. Comparison with other nations using a measure calibrated differently is pointless too.

Me? I'm just waiting for the daily death toll of "people who have died within 28 days of receiving a Covid-19 vaccination". Because it will be just as meaningful as the "within 28 days of a positive test" guff. And it will be happening. After all, we've placed over 80s at the head of the queue, so some of them will inevitably croak soon after getting jabbed, it's a statistical certainty. But there'll be no recording of deaths soon after vaccination, or if there is it won't be publicised for fear of "handing ammo to the 'anti-vaxxers' campaign".

Utterly mental but I wonder about these stories about people driving hundreds of miles for a Macdonalds/kebab etc..more likely drugs mules dropping off and picking up.

No one drives 300-400 miles for a kebab, no one.

Not necessarily drugs, but they're clearly out breaking lockdown rules, and just give that as an excuse

The excess death numbers tell their own story.

For the whole of April, and into early May the death rate in England and Wales was up by between 50% and 113% on the average for the same period in 2015-2019. If Covid wasn't responsible, what was?

The governments response to COVID will play a part, to what degree, we’ll never find out for certain.
And it’s not excess deaths on their own which is important.
It’s the response, and the consequences (intended and otherwise) of the response, which should be the concern.
We’ve never behaved like this on the premise of a virus before.
Even the Gov’s own documents say they never thought they’d ‘get away with’ responding as the nasty despotism China did.
People who think they’re doing the right thing don’t use language like that.
‘Getting away with’ something is when you’ve done something wrong, and you know it.

What’s to stop them doing so in the future now the precedent has been set?
