I know this is a basic question...but which direction to the fixed speed cameras work in NZ? Generally in the U.K. a camera on the left will catch traffic going past on the left ie photo from behind. However in Switzerland there were some that worked in both directions.

At the moment I’m making sure my speed is okay whichever side of the road they are on so not a problem but I’m curious.

Traditionally they take a photo from the front so the driver can (in theory) be identified, I'm not sure if any of the newer ones take photos from behind instead.

I've certainly been pinged from behind. I believe at least some can do both directions.

The one on the Ngauranga Gorge gets all lanes, both up and down. There are others that just do one direction.

Does anyone know what bandwidth they are using?

my Escort Redline 360C picks up fixed speed cameras too, not sure what the bandwidth is, but it's not 'Ka'. It makes a different noise and comes up with a fixed camera logo to warn me.

It didn't save me from a laser gun several months ago though. I need to find a solution for that

Two solutions. 1. keep to the speed limit haha or 2. fit a laser jammer.

Laser guns have a very narrow beam and the cops aim them at specific vehicles so the chances of your detector picking up a reflected signal from another vehicle is extremely slim. They generally aim at the number plate and thats why laser jammer units are usually mounted right next to the plate. With a laser detector when it goes off and you are exceeding the speed limit its really telling you to pull over. Laser guns lock on so fast you really don't any time to adjust your speed. A laser jammer will jam the laser gun reading giving you time to adjust your speed before deactivating your jammer so the cop gets a speed reading on you.

I have a laser jammer fitted in my car and it has a small button mounted next to the gear lever. I press this button to deactivate the jammer.
