The pessimist in me see's this as a totally pointless model.

I get the CP as it tightens up some of the F90's 'loose' handling, but adding 10bhp & shedding just a few KG is hardly going to make the F90 M5 'sporty'.

Add to that a more than £10k premium & it smacks of milking the model. I'd still wager the CP is the sweet spot & all the CS will do is make the CP more appealing (cheaper).

Am a huge fan of the M5 & have owned the E60 & F10, but the F90 really hasn't appealed to me in the way i thought it would. Yes it's hugely fast & as per all M5's is a nice place to sit, but making an M5 more 'Sporty' feels like a defeat of the object.

I agree with the above, I see the CS models mostly as a huge waste of money (when buying NEW that is), which only makes the CP more attractive.

Who knows where values will be further down the line though. I feel like in recent times the letter M in the BMW lineup stands for Marketing, not Motorsport anymore.

Just my 2 cents.

Agree with this although it’s existence won’t detract from that fact that the F90 CP is still a very good setup.

When I borrowed an F90 CP a year ago and did a few thousand miles, having come from my F10 as a high mileage daily, I thought the F10 was the more comfortable long distance GT / daily. Now my mileage has dropped to barely 10% of what I was doing, I find the CP much more appealing.

It’s fair to say the F90/G30 in any form is a much sharper handling car than its predecessor so I suspect the original non-CP M5 would have been the sweet spot for my original high mileage requirement and it’s a shame it isn’t still offered, although the M550xi has since come along. I’d still much rather have the M though.

Having owned E46/E92/F82 M3s and now a non-comp M5 I do find the M5 to be quite the surprising package in terms of handling and fun to drive. The xdrive is a masterpiece, the car is rwd the vast majority of the time and only when really pressing on can you sometimes feel some of the drive shifting to the front wheels.
The car is a great daily driver in comfort suspension setting and firms up nicely in Sport+.
You can feel the car moving around beneath you again when pressing on and it will oversteer even when not in MDM but not in a scary way.
The downside is that the most of the fun occurs at high speeds so its not a car for everyone.

After 5 M5's two F1o's and 3 F90 M5's this one being the LCI, I agree that the CS is a total wast of time and money, it will be up around the £140/150K mark from what I've been told, which is stupid money.
154Kg will mean one small child left at home, it's nothing for a 650BHP car. I find the latest F90 to be the best, new software and M8 gearbox make it Ballistic off the line.
Probably my last M5 as age is against me now and this Covd19 has trapped me at home most times, I've done 920 Miles from brand new end of October to now!! not even run-in yet 12 weeks of this st.

I always thought the same about the odd few kilos. My first experience of the F10 was in a ring taxi with two mates adding circa 250kg of passsenger lard in addition to the driver. I'm not saying it made no difference to his lap, but the driver wasn't decrying the car as an utter failure. In fact he seemed to be enjoying his job.

Mind you the 150-odd pound (70kg) purported saving equates to one fairly beefy kid smile

I agree completely with you. I've had 6 M5's and an M6, I don't understand the market for a stripped out version, why would you want to do that to a large, luxury saloon car. I can understand it in the M2-M4 model range but not the 5 series. Each to their own I suppose, and as others have suggested, I guess there will always be people who want to play the oneupmanship game.

I've got the pre-LCI F90C and as I've said previously it's the best M5 I've had, going as far back as the E39. Age is also becoming an issue along with potential retirement and I'm trying to plan that around an LCI version if at all possible, my man maths tells me it should be no problem.....

As a last resort I'm hoping the CS might help lower prices on them!

I had the M6 Gran Coup, I liked it a lot, till someone dumped 3/4"shingle all over the front on the A47, big costs to repair then lost that "loving feeling" and sold it.

CS = Club sport. Use it on the M2 and M3 yes, but the M5, what a load of crap BMW! You cannot make a 2 tonne + full size saloon into anything near Club Sport spec, just major bullschitt marketing.

The Comp versions offer great value and from a sale and marketing perspective, BMW wins and the customers get a well packaged product in the M2, M3/4 and M5.

I am interested in it, but very reserved until it is released and pricing announced. I am thinking of it as a bigger more refined Giulia Quadrifoglio.

I like it, but not enough colour choice and the cost of the comp is pretty steep.

Just read it's a ONE year build, so how many will come here is anyone's guess.

It takes 1 year to build one... laugh This is mass-produced and surely on the same line as every other BMW. Or you mean it will only be in production 1 year?

The Starting price is £140K, some hopes of these selling, to boot One year production ONLY.

biggrin It will be in production one year .. .that is, of course, unless they still have demand for it.

If they do, then they'll delay the end date of production, add a CS+Comfort model with more options and same cost, which people will of course want and will kill the used values of the CS.laugh
