V8 Convertible 20k
Discussion
With the following criteria:
2 seat
8 cylinders or more
Rwd
Manual
Convertible
Around 20k or less
Not scraping into the ropiest example around
It seems the only options are a Chimaera (could get a 5.0 within budget) or a C5/C6 Corvette (manuals not too common though).
Is there anything else?

There's a nice C5 Corvette on eBay. Nothing to do with me, I just take a look every so often for manuals as they are so rare. I owned an auto a few years ago and as a car that stands out, sound brilliant and are still pretty quick they tick a lot of boxes.
I'd want to make sure it has the later abs as early ones are a time bomb that cannot be fixed but other than that, parts are cheap even from the states, will do 20mpg around town and 30 on a run. Cheapish tax around 260 a year and can be modded to go very fast for not huge amounts of money.

5.0 Chimaera for me! Stunning car and sounds amazing.
Classic British sports car too.

It does look a nice car, I've been following C5s for a while, prices are all over the place, was hoping to pay closer to 15k than 17k - can get c6s for sub 17k
My options really seem to be between a 5.0 Chimaera and a C5. There's a nice looking yellow 5.0 Chimaera on AT for 18k. But the c5 is a bit rarer, and probably more reliable.

I did, well your criteria didn't include "Desireable"!
I also owe you an apology as the Maserati I found said "Manual", but I can't see a gearstick in the photos.
To make up for it... Marcos?
I'm going to hand in my PH credentials and admit I don't know what a marcos is. I just googled itI also owe you an apology as the Maserati I found said "Manual", but I can't see a gearstick in the photos.

Yes, marine grade, I believe. However, that one is only a 4 cylinder. Later they made a Marcos Mantula with the Rover V8, and you could get a manual "Spyder".https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1242287
