Was watching the Stirling Moss doc on Sky earlier, on the footage of his first race at Goodwood there were bookies set up as per horse racing, never knew that was a thing, anyone know if that was a regular thing / when it died out?

it came back again in the mid 1990's for the touring cars, but only for a year or two.

I saw it at Grands Prix in the louche Seventies . But , if memory serves, only at Brands Hatch , the Arfur Daley to Silverstone's Rees Mogg persona

I would think these days it's far too easy for results to be "manipulated"

I remember winning £200 from a trackside bookie at Donnington when Matt Neal won his first btcc race in a privateer car.

Given some of the stunts pulled in races back then , away from the sight of officials. the lack of CCTV, no electronic timing and the fact nobody gave much of a f *** about anything , I'd suggest the reverse was true .

They were there at the ITC/DTM Donington Race in 1995 and I remember them there at Donington in 99 when Neal won, the odds can’t have been amazing as Neal was on pole for race two anyway?
