I'm disapointed

I have just watched the Live 8 day and had a great day.
Pink Floyd...fantastic, Robbie...as always, Dido % Nessun...crying my eyes out

so I thought I'd come on to PH and see what you guys thought about it.

All I've seen is arsey comments about Geldof and Bono etc, they are in it for the money, why don't they cough up their own cash instead of furthering their own career etc etc

Absolute load of bollocks, people here may have nice and cumfy lifestyles but why do that arrogant 'I'm alright so bugger everyone else'??

There is a trend on PH to go with the flow of Hey we hate Chavs, Pikeys, Blair and anyone else who doesn't matter to me.

How can anyone not be touched by the immensity of todays concerts.....whether or not you feel that the politics of the African government are corrupt etc .

We all live on this lump, we therefore have a responsibilty to ensure the welfare of others, whether they are in Hackney or Harare.

great effort by geldof and co. but the line we dont want your money is misleading, live aid was an appeal for money for ethiopia,

this is appealing to populist tts like blair and schroder to give away taxpayers money, to buy mugabe a new maybach or a helicopter!

i donate regularly to the rnli and the air ambulance, and would not appreciate increased taxation to buy blair a place in history!

tax is to pay for local services not international charity to make politicos and popstars look good!

That probably wasn't the best way to complete what was undoubtedly a very emotional and long day... there are lots of critics on here at the best of times!!!

For what it's worth, there were plenty of us who were well into the gig and if you plough through the 20 page watching thread you will find some good natured banter and genuine interest.... Pink Floyd even have their own thread going!!!

I for one believe that the debt and unfair trade embargos should have been dropped years ago and if this event raises awareness and leads to change, then great... however, I long ago took off my rose tinted spectacles and am fully aware that debt or no debt, Government corruption is the biggest problem that faces Africa.

Everyone is allowed to have their own views, right or wrong (depending on your viewpoint). What I am disapointed in the the calls of "Racist!" or personal verbal attacks on people just because their views do not fit into their own.

The last 3 or 4 threads last night were all heading the same direction and passions always run very high on sensitive subjects. Perhaps people can just pause and think before typing.

I believe WE all agree that live 8 is a good cause and with that amount of people attending/watching this will show the worlds leader the feel of the public mood.

I'm seriously dissapointed by a lot of the posts recently, yes you can be passionate about a cause, but when you resort to petty name calling just because someone expresses their opinion,
when you dismiss someone's right to an opinion just because it conflicts with what you think or feel,
and when you get on your high horse and throw accusations at people you've never even met but who may do an awful lot for other people but unlike many don't actually brag about it.

Then in my constitutionally protected opinion, you become no better that the fat, bloated, power hungry dictators who have caused Africa to be held back in the middle ages for so long.

Opinions are like ar5eholes, everyone's got one, if you want guaranteed back slapping, sycophantic mutual appreciation, I suggest you go onto a different forum as this has always been a place where grown-ups share, air and discuss their opinions like the adults I'm sure you all are.

I have never witnessed so much 'moral bullying' on any forum such as this ever!
The government would love to stifle freedom of speech and individual opinion, and from what I've read on this forum, it seems that quite a few would welcome it!
If people have views other than your own, RESPECT IT!!! and be thankful we can (still) have opinions!

That's a good phrase. In its simplest form, it's something like 'I've given £10 to the XYZ charity so now you must as well, 'cos if you don't you're a miser'. I had some helpings of that from a rather argumentative and wealthy socialist PH poster (you know who you are).

Whether anyone wants to give money to a charity is their own damn business! It is not to be 'expected' nor 'demanded'; it is a *charitable* act.

I will not submit to moral bullying, or run with the herd if I don't want to. I make my own decisions using my judgement and the facts available to me.

Watched very little of the concert, far less than I thought I would, and for me it had nothing to do with the state of the third world. This is one literal band wagon I'm not jumping on.

What a Saturday, i was glued to the box all day. Looking at all the threads running on Live 8 i think that it's achieved what it set out to do, raise awareness.
