What is it like?
Sat at home in the cold and damp, dreaming of crisp, dry air.

I'm told it's expensive to buy. But where I don't know.
If it were me then it would be in a tiny hamlet and I would heat with wood. So I would have to intergate with the local community dam quick.

In a town I imagine very expensive from what I've been told and read. But no hands on knowledge.

I fancy it myself to be honest.

You can have damp days too.

Depending where you live you need to think very carefully of what your needs are.

It can be lonely in winter

It can be tough, snow starts off exciting, all the bluebird days you want, but then you realise that before you can go you need to clear the driveway of snow and carry the days wood in, then when you get back clear the drive again and again before you go to bed sort of takes the excitement out of it.

As others have said integrate with the French locals quickly and early don’t go for the easy ex-pats option.

That said, it’s a great place to live.

We lived in the Pyrenees for 3 years and it doesn’t compare to the fog and drizzle of Dordogne. My joints definitely feel the difference.

I would have thought other fora like snowheads, live the season, seasonaires etc may be better. I would think the big discriminator is kids, and the logistics of schools etc. No kids, go have fun. Kids. Bit more to think about.

Live The Season are a great source of help for anyone thinking of a move like this, but that’s enough about me, seasonaires are no more after David disappeared to Australia, snowheads has a lot of expats on who can give advice.

Schooling wasn’t too much of a barrier who know how much it will be after Saturday.

I lived in the alps for several years and if you’re planning to do it year round I would recommend somewhere that has a residents community: Chamonix, Morzine, etc.

Purpose built resorts like Les Arcs are ghost towns in the inter season and can be very boring.
