OK bare with me, all ideas gratefully received.

I have an elderly SL Merc
Mrs PR a 6 Yr old Hyundai i20

Both used daily albeit each car probably only does 3k pa.

Here's my thinking, spend a few bob on the Merc tidying it up, then use for high days and holidays.

Use the Hyundai as hack + dog wagon

Then treat Mrs PR but what?

She would like cheap to run, SUV style. Performance, luxury, image and 4wd not really important. But must be brand new, squeaky clean and (because I won't need to abuse it) stay that way.

We don't want to spend Buckets of dosh, cause we just don't see or get the value from cars. In 5-10 yrs all being well, it'll be demoted to dog wagon/hack anyway.

So thinking a sandero stepway or duster.

Any views or alternatives?

Can't speak for the SUV, but I was quite impressed by the regular Sanderos I've been in, given how much it costs and what you get for that. Don't think you can really go wrong!

I hadn't heard of these, looks nice in the pics perhaps a bit posh for what we want.

We've put the plan into operation, Mrs CC now has a prereg duster, jolly good too, and a bargain it has to be said.

Just need to clean and service the Hyundai, I'll run the SL as is through the summer then tidy it up next winter.

The more I look at these, the more appealing they look esp at the price point.
How comfy are they and anyone have experience with the 1.3 petrol engine? I think it's the same engine used in the Clio/Captur etc
I don't need the size/space these offer but appear to be excellent vfm and usually that doesn't last esp if these prove to be popular.

There's a throbber thread in readers cars, I think one of the contributors had/has a 1.3
The 1.0 is honestly fine. On paper it shouldn't be but loads of mid range, so pulls eagerly and feels quicker than it really is.

The appeal is prereg 1.0 essentials can now be had for £10400.

My Duster Essential 999cc triple arrived early this morning.

It was like buying on Amazon, ok I actually talked to a very helpful salesman in Wolverhampton, 150 miles away.

Said yes on Wednesday or Thursday, and it arrived today.

Very impressed so far and I'm coming from a BMW.

Motor is zippy, easy to drive, very economical, plenty of space apart from my 6' 5" son whose head is brushing the headline. The passenger seat can't be adjusted height wise. Maybe it is on the higher spec models.

£10,500 pre reg incl delivery and spare tyre, an £170 extra.

I pretty happy with it after day one smile
