Hi, been offered some photoblocker numberplate spray, already have a roadangel in my car (which I can REALLY recommend) is this stuff worth £16, or am I just wasting my money?
Anyone have any experience of using it?

The pictures taken by the camera can have the contrast, brightness, gamma etc tweaked which reveals the number behind the flash. Potentially vendors could use the same process to enhance the flash reflecting abilities of their sprays in their photos, but I'm sure they don't do that.

I have seen two stalls selling it at shows under different brands. Both said that it is "completely legal", which is a lie, so I have trouble believing that it works too.

I was politely chatting to the owner of one stall, and while listening to more lies coming out of his mouth I was inspecting a demonstration plate. The sun was directly behind me but the slightly rough surface that the spray made didn't appear to be that reflective.

The trouble is that it is difficult to replicate the conditions it will operate in. Get it wrong and you will be done for speeding for sure, possibly obscuring a registration, and possibly attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Flash tec was featured in The Times about two weeks ago.

Its points & cash IIRC for obscuring plate in any way
Mud/Old rag/Newspaper etc where-as leaving your plate off IIRC is initially a small fine
Hmmm!

perhaps a representative of the constabulary will be along shortly to advise

I think it would be way to much effort for the police to prove you had tampered with your plates using Flashtec or an alternative.

I tried FLASHTEC on a spare rear numberplate and took a digital flash picture after following the instructions.

I can confirm that it definately DOES NOT work. What a waste of £24 so don't bother and tell others.

Its all well and good even if it did work, but only the camers that get your rear plate would be beaten. All the other ones don't use flash anyway so the spray is pointless.

Also, if you don't happen to notice the huge grey tube with a big yellow box on top, not to mention all the lines on the road, then your not concentrating hard enough anyway!

IMO of course.

I don't see the fixed cameras as a real problem, (not that I speed ) Its the blinking mobile vans over bridges that are the problem as by the time you see them, if your speeding, you've already been done!!

Happy motoring!

Works even better if you spray it over the Scamera lens

or in the scammers face

If your plates are'nt retro reflective then I assume it'll work an awful lot better

On the non-reflective angle, I have been looking at having initially one plate made up on a magnetic, and slightly bendy plastic sheet, which would mould to the line of the bodywork neatly

I used to work in a place where our "next door neighbour" was a one of the main distributors of this stuff in the UK and they had done a lot of their own "testing"

1. It doesn't work
2. It's totally illegal
3. You can dazzle other drivers
4. If those other drivers are rozzers, then tend to pull you over and have a word with you
5. After time is can discolour your plates which is another giveaway.

It is that stuff, (I think) that turns the plates, a grey colour anyway right!

Thats just asking for trouble from plod, even the parking attendents have trouble reading them.
