Personally I think alcohol is a more damaging drug, both to the person and to society, than most 'illegal substances'.
However, whilst accepting this, I still really enjoy good beer, wine, champagne and cider. Don't really drink spirits.
Unfortunately, my family have all been in the brewing industry so I drink too much.

It's the fuel of my best stories.
If I didn't get drunk, I'd probably be quite mundane and rational.
Meanwhile, I've declared my undying love to a few lucky maids
I console myself with this gem "On ones deathbed, one is unlikely to regret declaring ones drunken love to to few ladies"
I'm booze fueled (fooled) and proud.

Speaking of which I think there is a Lions V.S. All blacks test on this afternoon in Wellington, I’ll have to buy some beers and enjoy the game (I don’t particularly want to go into Wellington because it will be chockablock with lager louts trying to light their own farts).
Charlie can you perform an experiment for me? I once saw this submarine movie which ensued that dumping whiskey into a diesel engine made it more powerful, I’ve wondered ever since…
Self medicated with it for 24 years, decided I wanted to live, haven't touched a drop for 4 years, 1 month and 16 days. Do I like it?, yes. Would it have killed me?, yes. Could my abuse of alcohol have killed others?, yes. Did it destroy most of my freindships?, yes. Did it harm my growth as a person?, yes.

The human race has been brewing, vinifying and distilling for respectively thousands and many hundreds of years.
And we've become very, very good at it.
There is little to better caressing one's taste buds with a truly fine Chassagne Montrachet, properly - not overly - chilled. Similarly the fine "brandies" of Spain, I could go on and on..
The fact that these painstakingly made, lovingly prepared taste experiences also have an intoxicating effect is all part of their almost mystical charm - but is secondary IMO.
But there is NO substitute for the alcohol in them. The warming feel in the mouth is part of the taste and is inextricably intertwined with the fruit.
Alcohol: Its pretty damn wonderful when properly combined with all the other fine ingredients of a classic wine, real ale or characterful spirit.
By itself its handy for cleaning things.
And we've become very, very good at it.

I like it in moderation. I suffer very bad from hangovers, more than 4 drinks and I 
the morning after so I try and keep below 4
You cant beat it sometimes though. Imagine going to a country pub and sitting there drinking coke instead of beer. Or going out for nice dinner without red wine.

Very brave statement. Have both female and male mates that are currently in that state. Have to say they are EX mates now and one now dead. They lives are totally

Both my mate and I drink far too much. Country pub over the road which shuts when you stop drinking. Going over for last orders invariably ends up in one of 2 scenarios:-
1. Running out of money
2. Staggering home wasted at stupid o clock.
It was getting a bit of a habit so I've taken up drinking pints of orange squash in the week (when I go over), quite funny watching the barmans face "2 pints of orange please" "That'll be £1"

like what I'll be doing this afternoon. Let's see if I can make it past 5:00am.

alcohol makes me hurt. especially when you've had a typhoid injection that afternoon. yes i know, it really wasnt a good idea was it

i've also had to stop drinking during the week, but that was cos none of my mates were out, so i started drinking by my self in my room. i only just reallised that there is nothing sadder than someone who drinks on their own every night,

Mate last Thursday phoned and said pop down to my hair salon later and i'll trim your hair.
Arrived about 4pm and the usual chin wagging started.
She pulled out a bottle of Pimms No.1 and asked "have you ever drunk this as i havn't a clue what it's like".
Result: Had to return Saturday for her to finish off my hair

I experienced exactly the same as you there anhamgrimmar, but not in my room.

Depends what your reason is, I have solved many a complex buisness / techincal / other problems while drunk so depends also how your mind works
