My wife is looking at getting a medium size SUV, mainly for perceived safety....
The budget will be ~£10k, annual mileage 15k.
Does anyone have any advice/recommendations in this segment.
Currently she's looking at Qashqai, Sportage, Kadjar and ASX(a bit smaller).
She's not keen on the Seat Ateca or the 3008 and CX-5 seems to be priced a bit higher.
Is there anything else worth considering?

I'd avoid anything French, and that includes the Qashqai (due to Renault alliance).
Japanese or Korean would be my bet at that price point, especially if you can get something with the remaining 7 year warranty balance?
The only exception might be the Mitsubishi ASX, as the engine on our friends car just let go in a rather dramatic way at only 5 years old and quite low miles. I don't know enough about them to know whether this is common, but certainly do you research.

If its for safety, and given the budget and likely age of cars you are looking at, then the Nissan Qashqai and Ford Kuga were NCAP safest in class a few years back.
I know a few people who have very little sympathy for cars and don't look after them that have had Ford Kugas without any trouble - should be relatively cheap to run as well.

The Tuscon is also one I thought off, but assumed the Sportage might be a better option with the 2 years extra remaining on the warranty for similar cost/year.
I was cautious about the Qashqai too, since it was pretty low on the reliability surveys for a few years. But was cheaper to fix than a lot of the others in the survey.
The Kuga is a good shout, cheap parts in case anything does go wrong as well. She has a Focus at the moment, but I think some brand snobbery may be creeping in.
With the lockdown we've not been able to look at any. I think this is the next step to whittle down the shortlist.

I went for the Honda over the Rav4 mainly because the reliability on the Toyota diesels is crap. I was looking at older models though so did they improve the engines in the newer ones.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202011105...

Not sure if it's consideration for the OP but your choices get considerably reduced if you don't want a diesel in this sector. You also got to watch you don't accidentally buy a 2wd version of something... unless that's what you want of course.
