Mini Cooper Automatic or not?

My girlfriend is thinking of buying a new Cooper Automatic.

Has anyone heard of any faults or reasons not to go for this car and buy the manual instead? Or is it fine?

My friend has an automatic and its falling apart slowly. My others has a manual and its fine. But you'd think build quality would be the same! But as I say it is literally falling apart and spends most days at the dealers garage

Drove one on demo a few weeks ago, it was pretty poor to be honest, it felt like the character had gone out of the car. But, I guess it depends what you want out of the car really.

I drive a mini mayfair '89 automatic and its brilliant. No problems whatsoever to speak of. Someone said that their friends was falling apart, its just how its looked after.
