Having a look at this one this weekend. It’s an old, slow, bike. Why am I so excited?

Is that the one at RAP? £6k+?

Rdo3? Lovely.

I’ve been looking at a RD07’s.....my brother has one too....I have this grand touring idea that the AT revels in.

It is the RAP bike - £6,250. I've a not-even-half-baked idea to get it and keep it till retirement, then take it around the world.

Tomorrow I'll have moved onto Van Vans and Monkey bikes...

Sorry to derail your Africa Twin stuff, Kawasicki, they're great too. I love all the 80's/90's big trail bikes - like music, you always stay with the era you first discovered your interest.

You’re not derailing it! I just look at biker banter... for ....ahh.... banter about bikes.

About 3 weeks ago I almost bought a seriously mint yet cheap GSXR 750 SRAD.

Last year I bought a very tidy Ducati 999, from a Ducati dealer... for not much money.

I bounce around all over the used bike shop... with my man maths going into overdrive I can justify anything.. anything that’s cheap anyway.

I didn't even know they did a 650 AT.

I had a couple of Transalps which I assume these are based on. They were easily one of the most comfortable bikes I have ever ridden. The first one (The 600) handled way better than it had any right to. I even manged to catch the footpegs , once!

The 600 was a bit of a nail so I ended up completely stripping it and doing a frame up rebuild in a non standard colour scheme.

Always had a soft spot for the Africa Twins.... but a mate has one so would have to get something different. Always liked these as a Plan B...

Check out Harry’s garage, he has Dakar winning bikes from start to late 90’s.

Rare because they were and are rubbish, heavy, underpowered with a weak gearbox
