Anybody have any decent tales of being challenged by chavs / boy racers in their Elise / Exige? [K]arls was a classic - being told he was about to be smoked by a chav mobile! I'm new to the scene but already notice that every chav'd up car wants to take me on :)

To be honest I usually just sit back and cruise. Its not worth the hastle. You know and they know you have the faster car and I find it winds them up even more not to rise to them.

That said I did go out for a blat in the 456 tonight and had to dispense with a young twocer on a dual carriageway. Up to 100 its only a bit quicker than the Exige but the accelaration after 100 is just scary.

Hehe - it really was a classic. The guy obviously considered himself akin to Brian O'Connor. For those that didn't see my original post:

i said:
Funniest ever was a chavved-up Astra which pulled up next to me at the lights on the East Lancs Road - after revving the nuts off it to show off the wastegate sound effect, the driver asked what the "list price" of my car was and announced he was going to "smoke" me. Obviously been watching The Fast And The Furious too many times!

Usually, I consider myself and my Elise to be above this kind of thing - I have sufficient confidence in myself and the car that I don't feel the need to prove anything. However, on this occasion, the temptation was just too great .

I did give the guy a fair chance, though - I offered, and indeed gave him, one entire gear's head start. Following which I deployed all 190 angry Toyota horses in a very practical demonstration of "performance through light weight".

No doubt he was afterwards weeping into his copy of Max Power .

Its not just Boy Racers.. Blokes in works vans, dads on their own in MPV's.. In the North East Taxis seem to be the worst offender, it may be just me but they are either crawlin along in front of you at fifteen MPH or right up your chuff regardless of what speed your doing..

Great one coming back into Liecester from Ansty.

Just cruising, enjoing the sunshine when some big old Volvo T something shot by me (dual carriage way), practically on his hub caps! After I'd finished laughing, a quick blat quickly took me back passed him again. This obviously wound him up because he ragged his Volvo passed me again as I was slowing down for a set of red lights!

In his anger at being made look like a tt by a bloke in a plastic car, he obviously hadn't seen them and had to slam the anchors on to come to a screeching hault in a cloud of tyre smoke 5 meters the wrong side of the lights.

How I laughed!

Only had mine a little while, but they're all over the place trying to bait you!

As Davey said above, I never rise to them. The risks of something going wrong, especially with respect to the likely quality of their driving, I love my car too much to do it!

HOWEVER, I did have a fabulous play with an Impreza Turbo driven by a very capable bloke (no idea who he is) but we followed one another for a while, up and down a few link roads, great fun, respectful...yet chuffing quick...driving, and a thumbs up as we departed. That's how driving should be!

Leave the Chav/Boy Racer types to race amongst themselves.

yep, if someone can drive, and leaves sensible room, it can be great fun to make the most of the road, which usually ends up in a wave or thumbs up - best I had for that was heading south from Knockhill a few years ago - 3 cars, all 'making progress' on great roads, deserted at 5 in the morning - went on for about an hour and a half and as each car went its own way, flash of lights and friendly wave.

But if some bloke is determined to ram an imprint of his halfords clip on lamps into the back of my car each time we stop, I'll just let him past (until the next unrestricted road at least...)

Try racing some riced up chavmobile off the line about 200 metres away from where you know theres a gatso (and they don't) then slam on the anchors before you get to it. Chavmobile continues believing Saxo power is the dogs knackers, lights flash, chav boy gets a nice photo of the back of his car sent to him courtesy of plod. Cracks me up every time!

What a great topic!!!

I like to think of my self as a Chav Punisher!!!

I have to agree everyone wants to race you, I find dad's in family MPV's the worst. The only thing I can think of is that there pi55ed at the fact that they drive round in a 7 seater mini bus! Especially when they see that it's a young lad driving an elise!

Most recent story, I was doing my normal daily drive to work and I had a N0b in a GTI-R Sunny pull up along side me. In all credit to the old boy who was driving it the car was immaculate, and not chaved to normal LED and Neo spec.

It was quite obviously his pride and joy, with his K&N, and Super Chip stickers down the side of his car.
I looked over and he was giving his car Sh1t loads of Revs waiting for the lights to change.

RED....
AMBER......GO

Revved up dropped the clutch, No Wheel spin perfect start. Got to 3rd and had a look over to see where he was, all I could see was smoke! Stupid Fool blew his engine and didn't even make it 50 yards up the road

That’s what u get for fitting home made tupawear to your car!

Classic last night on the SELOC Kent Run. Some dope in a Metro hacking it along tight country lanes behind about 10 of us in a row plus a 360 Modena.

I kept him at bay by letting him get up close, holding it at 4k and just as he gets near giving it a bit of toe and watching the rev counter spin round to 7k as he faded away.

Then we get to a level crossing at Appledore and all slow to make sure no one grounds out, checking for trains etc. and chav-boy catches up, overtakes every one of us (now practially stationary as we creep across the level crossing), practically takes off on the other side and grounds out the exhaust as he lands, sparks everywhere car lurching across the road.

None of us could catch him - we were too busy p!ssing our sides laughing

Probably got home and told his mates "I dun 10 Elises and a in Ferarri right..."

Idiot of the first order.

Great stories. Happens all over the country. I tried a straight line dice against a black body kitted celica supra on an M4 onramp near Reading a few months ago. He left me and my 111s like I was looking for a parking bay! Met him a weeks later and had a chat - 600bhp celica apparently - nothing standard! I will be more circumspect in future - anyway, I can at least waste him on the twisties.

On the other hand, why to blokes in £500 of citroen saxo with £7500 worth of body kit and sound system always want to drive up your tail. The bass of the stereo nearly bounces my car clean off the bleeding road! When you dicover on pull off that he probably has a 1 litre engine with 60bhp, 2/3 of which is running the stereo, you wonder why he bothered. Our taxes probably bought the stereo anyway!

Cheers

Great post!
Pootling past a Renault 5 GT turbo without a single orignal fit panel on a the A10 this time last year.

GT driver with cap wearing mate took offence to me going past and several puffs from the dump valve later is nose to nose attempting to go past (I must admit to having not much left to offer) when due to stationary traffic in his lane (which he hadnt seen as was so intent on getting in front) he had to brake.

I continued at pace up to the right hand filter lane and he pulled in behind me. I was ready to exchange a little banter as I was quite impressed with the pull on the GT at speed however said GT driver could not make eye contact due to the large amount of steam and smoke emerging from under his bonnet, the little liz was running a steady 88 degress and his head was in his hands.

Guttted as was clearly his pride and joy! Muppet!

Same stretch of road other direction Nissan Sunny Pulsar GTi thing with a sign saying running in. Left it for dead from a standing start however somewhere near the quarter mile point a it passed m e in a blur.

1 mile later said Sunny driver winds down window at lights and asks what kept me......Had to inform him I had to take it easy due to the slick that was being excreted from his big end. Car appeared to have seized at the lights as I drove off...shame!

Nowadays I don't bother, last thing that was sat close to my tail that I lead footed away from was an unmarked BMW.....doh!

On the A22 I had a Ferrari 360 behind me. I tried to provoke him into a bit of action, not cos I thought I stood a chance but just to hear his screaming V8. He wasn't interested though.

Then a superbike arrived behind the Ferrari doing the left-right-left tyre warming exerice. Ferrari driver still wasn't going to play.

Then the Ferrari turned off at the next roundabout and traffic meant I got the jump on the bike. He saw I had a more spirited demeanour than Mr Fezza and came scraming up the road after me.

We acknowledged each other as he overtook me and a numptie I'd caught in the meantime. God, that bike sounded angry as he disappered through the woods. Kept me smiling while I patiently waited behind the Almera for my overtaking opportunity.

Adam.

PS Apologies for the slightly O/T lack of chavs in this post!

maybe I am just unlucky, not really had a chav experience yet, but sat at many lights just waiting...... with that all knowing smile...... for them to have a pop at me. Oh well, my time will come.
In the mean time this thread has raised most smiles for a while.

Let it continue

The chavs dont seem to want to racemy Elise but in my old MR2, it was all the time. The best was some twit in an RS escourt. Raced me down a bypass towards a roundabout. It was late and I could see there was no one on the roundabout so I went off at the first turn, basically a left turn. The guy in the ford was so desperate not to loose his lead, he braked very late, locked up and piled across the roundabout. I returned that way about an hour later. He was still there and the front wheels were at very odd angles!

I seem to specialise in picking the wrong chav. After posting my celica experience, I remembered an incident with a previous car - BMW M3 Evo E36.

Very car proud a couple of weeks after getting the car 6 or so years ago, I pulled up at a traffic light next to a bloke in a beat up VW Jetta mk1. Rust bucket delux. The bastard then had the cheek to start revving his car wanting a race. Idiot I thought - take my 320bhp and eat dust... Light went green and this guy was off like a scalded cat, smoke pouring off the tyres. As he disappeared into the distance, I did happen to notice very wide alloys, an exhaust that they could have launched a cruise missile out of and a trail of rather blueish smoke - the sort you get when you use nitrous. I suspect his engine note was drowned out by the sound of him laughing, cheeky devil. Found out later that the guy was fairly well known in the area and had a penchant for sticking monster engines and nitrous in old bangers for amongst other things, drag racing.

Since the celica incident I try to stick to dicing cars I know I can beat - like my neighbours Chimera or any porsche boxter you choose. Trouble is haven't been painstakingly modded, don't have a 200bhp stereo and they aren't driven by some knucklehead chav trying to impress his girlfriend. Therefore much less satisfying. Increasingly I am finding the idea of bogie's SC honda engine appealing. Trouble is then the chav in the saxo will be the guy who gets my kidneys, corneas etc....

Just like to say I don't think all people with modified cars are Chavs / Boy Racers! Maybe they can't afford a Lotus but that doesn't make them a Chav!

I have NEVER had a problem with groups of guys in souped up cars - call em what you will. I have to say a lot of this thread reads a bit like other sportscars owners I've met over the years.. "I can afford a proper sportscar so Im clever and better"

I always approach anyone driving something which time or money has ben spent on in the same way - big grins and thumbs up. The number of 'slightly angry laddish' looks which might have come my way by the driver of a maxxed up something turns into a grin to match mine and much enthusiasm - be it elise, marcos or lambo. I have had really great chats and laughs after stopping and chatting to some of the guys you merrily label "chavs" and clearly mean "tossers".

I reckon attitude is 99% of the battle - you drive past with a smug superciilious look and expect people to try and race you.

Night

p.s. thought Karls story doesnt sound like that to be fair!
