5th Gear: Now THAT'S more like it
Discussion
Tiff Needell's gone up in my estimation for his piece on the Enzo this evening. Didn't bother filming the bogs or anything. When he eventually got out for his 5 laps he switched the traction control off and gave it one
babbling like an idiot. Now THAT'S more like it....
Interesting comparison with the F1 too.

Bloody hell, you didn't hang about in posting that eh? I agree - loved the bit where he makes a point of stating that ..
a) He didn't get on with the Ferrari test friver
b) Pointed out that he was only 3 secs slower than the test driver & only after 5 laps experience!!!
Good ol' Tiff!!!

Fastest journalist ever around Fiorano; made you proud to be British! Mind you, might not be saying much seeing how farty the other drivers were being. I mean, really! Even the missus was getting agitated "God, that's PATHETIC- DRIVE it you wuss". I'll remember that next time we're in the car together

Yes, well done Tuff Noodles; the Enzo is undoubtedly a masterpiece in it's own right but what a bunch of whazzacks the Maranello PR machine appeared to be.
In a way, Ferrari came across as arrogant, IMHO. Like many companies who ride a crest - as they are at the mo - they start a journey up their own rectal region and that test driver seemed insufferable. Bit of a contrast to the Lambo equivalent, Snr.Bilbao.
I love Ferrari but the whole superiority complex thing is a little off putting.
Re the car itself, TN was obviously impressed but I don't think he was F1 blown away...maybe too much exposure to ultra exotica? Still, I thought it did look predicatbly awesome. But I'd rather have Kevin's brace of equine creativity. And then buy a Diablo GT.

I think the difference between Tiff and A.N.Other journo showed.
Tiff is a racing driver (albeit not the most successful - but still pretty damn handy) who has turned to journalism. The others are journos who happen to have a driving licence.
What the
is the point in sending out someone who is going to pootle about the track, who's going to drive like my gran?
I'd rather see someone enjoy the car (like Tiff) and give him 10, 15 even 20 laps to see what he makes of it, than read an article from some journo who has no real driving experience and probably little interest in cars anyway.
(Hopefully these comments will not be misunderstood)

One thing I was glad to hear was how much better the Enzo looked in the flesh. According to Tiff, the magazine shots of the car doesn't do it any justice.
I must admit I wasn't a big fan of the Enzo styling. I though Ferrari had got it wrong . BUT the Enzo is growing on me - BIG TIME
It's a shame Tiff only had 5 laps with the car. You got to admit he had balls for switching the TCS off. I wouldn't want to have been the test driver who spun the car into the nearest tyre wall
Them Ferrari PR people didn't look like a nice bunch!!!
That particular car seems to have done the rounds though. It's the same one used in all the magazine articles I've seen.
KEV: It's also the one you took a sneaky picture of on your factory tour
How did you get your camera past security ????
I also believe Ferrari have been forced into making another 50 cars - with the option of black paint. Is this true? and why?
Cheers,
Jay

And a question for all you Dancing Donkey-philes raised by my girlfriend whilst drooling over the Enzo last night: how is it that all 'Rarri engines on show through glass are so clean?
Do they get dirty?
Do you as owners have to spend hours cleaning your 'testarossas' because they're on show?

Short answer is yes, though it takes a few minutes with a damp cloth rather than hours. The bottom of the engine bay opens into the wheelarch on the 360 and F40 so you get road and brake dust in the engine bay. If you have a high metallic content in your brake pads, the coating you get is silvery & rather nice actually!

Yeah, that's what I thought ..... the pictures I'd seen before going to the factory were only "mediocre", but in the flesh .... wow, did I fall in love or what !!
{edited to take Kevs advice coz I'm a plonker!}

The one in my webshots album is from a Carrozeria (sic?) next to the Fiorano circuit, not the factory. It's of the press car that Tiff drove (Modena plates)

See above, and I'd get editing your previous message pronto if I were you Nev!
You guys are gonna hate me for this, but after joining/stoking up
a debate about ferrari styling the other week I have to say that it only looks marginally better on telly than it did in the magazine stills. Hopefully real life viewing will show that the conflicting angles are actually shapely and attractive, as well as being functional. Sounds marvellous though!

Nope! Well I didn't think so when I saw them at the factory anyway- Nev may have another view. Thought it looked purposeful but not beautiful. Had the same sort of impact as a Lambo. Seeing them alongside the 360's on the line made the 360 look a bit cissy- and don't take that as an opening for some earthy humour!
Well, it only needs to beautiful enough to sell 399 of them...... Watching 5th Gear made me want one. Badly.

"You know you want to Kev... Just imagine parking an Enzo next to 360 and the 456. You know it makes sence"
:saidthelittledevilsatonkevsshoulder:

The sound was pretty special wasn't it. I wonder if Manu could better it though - Probably

I believe an Enzo will be displayed at the NEC Motor show. It will mean queing for hours just to get a quick peek at the bloody thing - but at least I'll get to see one

Couldn't have put it better myself Kev, agree with everything. Depends really how you personally define "beautiful" .... to me that includes "purposeful" (personal thing). In the same way I think Ur Audi Quattro's are fantastic looking
Re the number made, funny isn't it that everyone keeps quoting that they're making 349 (again, last night on 5th gear) which isn't true ....
Want one too. Or maybe two .... one in each colour ....
