Interesting cars for £4k?
Discussion
Hi All.
We are after a new (to us) car. Budget £4k it is for my wife to drive daily; school runs for 2 rug rats and as a vehicle for her gardening business. So, need room for a petrol mower, strimmer, and other tools in the boot. Annual milage approx. 5000 miles.
The thing is I hate boring cars. I love cars but for me to have any interest in a car it has to have something about it, something quirky or different. Not gullwing doors or 18 cylinders but at least something about it! I have a legacy estate which looks pretty bland but the 4 wheel drive and flat 6 engine at least provide interest. I have been looking at Freelander 2’s but I am getting pretty tired of going and looking at rusty ones.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

As much as you hate sensible cars your wife needs an MPV to make her gardening side of things easier:

That Honda Elysion looks solid, tough choice between the Ford and the Honda.

With it doubling up as a van to carry his wife's gardening gear I'd have thought an MPV would be the better pick.E350 estate

My girlfriend started a small gardening business a few years ago, so we went through the same thing with car buying.
Don't underestimate how much mess a lawn mower and strimmer make in the boot of the car. We also realised she couldn't get the mower in and out on a regular basis without a ramp, so another large item to store. Back seats would also have to be put down, making the car a 2 seater again or having to empty it everyday.
We came up with 3 options, a crewcab pickup, Mercedes vito dual liner with a bulk head or a trailer.
She went with a small Brenderup trailer with tall sides and a hinged roof. This meant she could keep the car she already had and all her equipment lives in the trailer, so no loading and unloading every day. She was a bit nervous about the trailer to start with, but soon got the hang of it.
