Just placed a deposit on a new M2 comp pack with dct, comfort pack & plus pack.

However now thinking whether I should opt for another available car with the same spec plus M sport braking system.

Does this option include larger front discs & calipers?

Is there a noticeable difference in brake performance.

Really appreciate your advice from owners prior to totally commuting to the spec

Thanks

From what I've read on PH I would say the M performance brakes are only necessary if you're planning on doing track days. The added weight over the standard brakes doesn't make it worthwhile for the road.

I bought my m2c last week - I’ve sent you an email with some details, hope it helps a little bit get a good deal.

In terms of the brakes, I have them, they are massive - I couldn’t find any actual tests/data to prove they are any better at stopping than the standard disks, but take the following into account

- the bbk won’t fit in any wheel under 19”, possibly even some 19” - so winter wheels are much more expensive
- they stopped selling the bbk for a bit, possibly due to the fact some people had issues where debris has got stuck between the brakes and the wheel and caused substantial damage. The space between the disk and the wheel is small.
- replacement disks/pads will be considerably more expensive when they need replacing ( not sure how much of a consideration this is if you’re running an m-car )
- they add unsprung weight to the car, so could increase wear on other parts

I wasn’t particularly concerned when buying, but my local dealer car ended up having them, and they look amazing.

If you’re planning on doing occasional track stuff then they seem a decent, and cheap, upgrade. If you’re properly serious about track then you’d probably get different brakes anyway.

The upgrade includes bigger disks front and back, and upgraded from 4->6 pot front and 2-> 4 pot at the back. Full details are available here - https://www.bmwblog.com/2019/12/23/analysis-bmw-m2...

A pad and fluid upgrade on the "basic" calipers should be enough on track. I run DS1. 11 and very happy with the result.
On the road, the big brakes won't shorten braking distances of course as this is front tyre friction limited. I can imagine the added endurance may help if you live in the Alps or Corsica but then again you would simply run upgraded pads to start with anyway in the unlikely event that you cook them on the road.
I am not sure what upgraded pads are available for the 6 piston calipers either.

I've driven both and ended up paying for the bigger brakes as I figured they wouldn't hurt for the odd trackday. The standard brake optioned car I drove certainly stopped and didn't leave me wanting for road use, its probably the better option from every perspective track use aside.
