Looking at getting a new(to me) car after writing off my clk cabrio. I've always liked the CLS so looking at one ( or E coupe/cabrio). Spend about 8-9k, do very little miles less than 8k a yr but tend to do long runs rather than local shops so running costs not an issue. Anyone have experience of these 2 CLS models. Is the V8 worth it. Would be the later 5.5. not bothered about he performance to much but never complain either.

Obviously the 350cdi would be the same as I'd go for in a E class coupe.

Would go for a S class but possibly a money pit.

It depends how and where you plan to use it, on one hand 8k miles a year isn’t a lot to be worried about the fuel economy difference, on the other the diesel will be much better on fuel, and likely cheaper to buy at the moment as people are put off by pre Euro 6 diesels, but if you’re not planning to go into central London or some other city centres regularly I’d personally not be bothered by it.
My pick would be the 350CDI, that V6 Diesel engine is an absolute peach and has plenty of shove but if you want the slightly better performance and soundtrack of the V8 I’d not blame you for it!.

You could get a CLS350 cgi which is somewhere between the two:

In reality I'd go for the 500 they're effortless & in reality not that much worse on fuel:

The diesel is a great unit & would be perfect for your usage.

The E350cgi's are worth a look:

Or just go for a CL500:

The 350 on your link is a lot of car for the money. And with 27k miles. If I was in the marked right now I’ll snap it up

What are peoples thoughts on these. As a rule I dislike silver cars but the CLS does look good in silver. Plus it's 5.5 so v.rare and facelifted I think

As much as I dislike silver I normally hate white but I'm loving this plus Grand Edition 2yrs newer and sounds like good history

My only worry it it could be a white whale, but pearl white is metallic and does look great in the flesh

The 500 is the one I linked to it is a facelift & the one I'd be buying out of the two, that Grand Edition is nice though.
