Hi All,

I need to get a car from Paris to the UK (Southhampton). I’m finishing up a posting in Paris and taking my UK purchased car back to Australia (via the UK). I’d originally planned on driving but the lock-downs in France and the UK, including the UK 14 day quarantine make this option unfeasible.

Can anyone recommend any car transport companies that can get my car from Paris to the UK? Need it in the UK before Xmas.

Cheers,

Paul

I don't think there is anything to stop you driving the car to its destination in the uk and you returning to France straight away.

Not sure how that would work with quarantine and covid restrictions. Original plan would have me drop off and then train back to Paris. That surely would breach UK Covid rules. Getting a new hire car would be better but still not a transit/continuous trip.

There is nothing in the regulations stopping you from leaving the UK 2 minutes or 2 days after you arrive - there is no requirement to quarantine for the full 14 days before you leave the UK

As far as I'm aware all transport links are still operating. As long as you fill the correct forms and take precautions you should be good to go.

Thanks. I will investigate. Sounds strange but I’m more familiar with the French and not the UK regulations. I’m also an Aussie and our quarantine back home is super strict - as in, enforced hotel quarantine with guards in my home State. Hard to keep up with all the regulations and they keep changing all the time.

I agree with Magoo, so long as you are returning to your main residence (France), you have rights of free passage. What you cannot do is arrive in the U.K. and party like it’s 1999.

But one-night in a U.K. hotel is not a problem, finding somewhere to eat could be.

Agreed, doing this all by yourself could be a minefield considering you travel through France have to enter the UK, and then later enter France and travel to Paris.

There's a member on here with a car transporting business who gets recommended from time to time - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... Maybe talk to him?

It’s all about where you are resident.
We travelled back to UK under lockdown in France no problems in a UK registered car.
With UK plates you are allowed to transit through France to your residence.
However unless you are then returning to Paris for business you are breaking UK lockdown.
Both lockdowns are due to end sometime, move it then.
