Bought a car from a main dealer (non Jag) and it had pre-existing issues that their techs didn't detect, even though some were so obvious.
After a saga getting the issues resolved (DEF, climate issue, parking sensors and a bit of body work they promised to do but didn't initially) I thought the work was done.
However, twice more I have had to return the car which in turn was returned to Jag, due to diesel fluid exhaust warning. It gives you 500 miles to get it sorted before no more engine restarts.

After the last time I asked to return the car and they wouldn't because I had already turned their offer down before. At the outset the garage offered to buy the car back because they didn't want to spend any more money on it but I refused and said I wanted it fixing, because a) I wouldn't have a car, I liked the car - spec, age, practicality etc and I got 0% too.

So this morning the Ad Blu / DEF fault happened again.

In total I have done around 1000 miles in the car - I bought it end of July... and even had to wait 11 days to collect the thing after being told at the 11th hour there was a fault because of the Ad-Blue /DEF warning!

Has anyone had experience of buying a car with issues, and is there any rights in returning the car as not fit for purpose or something? I have zero confidence in the car or Jag service frown
Any legit advice welcome confused
Cheers,

R2x

What recourse you have depends on a few things such as how you paid for the car (credit card would be the best as you can raise the matter to your bank to try and recover your money, or having it on finance also gives you options).

I’d suggest you review the Consumer Rights act 2015 (google search, there are lots of results) .

There is also some useful info on how to deal with faulty used/new cars on moneyadviceservice, such as how to go about contacting the right people in the right way, and what your rights are to compensation or rejection of a faulty vehicle.

What is the actual fault?

Is the Ad Blue tank full?

Yes the Ad blu tank has been refilled, it has had several things done to it since at Jaguar main dealer. However, as I bought the car on a HP from Bristol St. and as the warranty is with them, I take the car to them and they sort it so I haven't had any paperwork back.

Fault is - 'incorrect diesel fluid quality!'

In reverse order:
I was told that last time it had the ECU wiped / reinstalled,
Prior to that, diesel fluid injector replaced,
Previously software update.

A receipt that came with the car showed that before it was traded in, it had been to a Jag specialist in June who had replaced the Ad Blu and said it would need a software update. It looks like this didn't happen, and hence when I was en route to collect the car, the garage called me to tell me there was a fault with it (only noticing it when putting some diesel ).
The fault had been there when they had taken it in but I presume they thought that all they needed to do was top up the Ad blu and it would be sorted.... but it had already been replaced as per the above and something more sinister is wrong.

Time to reject it then

Seems a slam dunk - they've had opportunity to rectify but failed to do so

Yea that's what I plan to do. Spoke to the money advice service today who were very helpful and the poster R2X has helped me in the right direction.

Letter going in tomorrow. I even phoned the dealer today to complain about the fault... promised a call back... silence once again!
