Selling cars on eBay?

I'm just about to create an advert for selling my car on eBay. Im putting an asking price of £10,650
It's charging me £15, is this about right or is there a way of doing it free?
It mentions a 10% final transaction fee??? Is this avoidable, or would i have to pull the advert before it ends?

Just do a classified advert.

That was around £18 last time I did one.

No final selling fee for classifieds.

yes normal advert will cost you a lot, classified is one off payment.

ebay Motors fees are £15 insertion fee, plus 1% of final value (minimum £25, maximum £45)

This, never ever sell a car by Auction or Buy in now unless you like dealing with time wasters. Either they won't respond again, or they will delay collecting the car until the inevitable "something unexpected has come up" message about their redundancy/dead relative/illness or other tale of woe.

Or my favourite "I'm coming from (insert location 300 miles away)/i'm a key worker (I work in Asda) can you lower the price?"

Just don't

If you must use eBay, classified add that stays live until the new owner drives away.

eBay classifed ad is the way to go as others have already said. I've had more luck with that than using Autotrader, Gumtree or Facebook.

Plenty of workers out there who can't WFH and still need cars. And most of the dealerships are shut. Good time to sell, I would imagine!

Tried the others (and PH)- nothing much doing, especially Autotrader and PH.

Ebay classified - have sold my last 4 cheapish cars this way -

BMW 325i - sold locally
Volvo s60 t5 - buyer travelled from Uxbridge to me (Norwich) £1995
Lexus IS200 - buyer travelled from Portishead! £1050
Focus ST170 - buyer from Dagenham £900

Think I may have done it wrong then, as I opted for Auction sale as it was £15.
I put my asking price on, but with the option of offers.
It's a LR Defender and I've asked for £10,650, and had an offer of £8,500 which I'm ignoring.
I did put that its advertised elsewhere so hopefully I can withdraw the advert if I choose? Is that the case?
Seems eBay will now charge me £45 if it sells

Lol many years ago, I almost bought a 330d Touring from a guy near me in Enfield, he had it on Ebay auction, he had a friend help push up the price by bidding a few seconds after me... went to view the car, it was a complete banger, broken inertia seatbelts and damaged trim.

I did buy an ex Police 530d Touring off Ebay a few months later. He had it up on Classifieds, everything legit, for a couple of years trouble free driving

How do sellers get their phone numbers to the potential buyers, as eBay don't allow this do they? Do they show it in one of the photos?

Yes, classifieds is good.

No transactions.

I've sold my last few cars on Ebay. Always seems to get the sale.

If you want to list a number, you'll need to list the car as a classified advert which allows you to add a phone number / email for people to call / message to discuss further.

If you try to add your number / email in an additonal photo expect your ad to get pulled at some point as it will get classed as a scam advert - as thats normally how the underpriced scam ads work by adding a "message me on xxx @ email or call xxx" photo.

If you list the car in any way other than a classified listing eBay don't allow phone numbers and all communication has to be done in text only via eBay messaging. If you try to send a number via messaging (unless after an item has physically sold to a buyer on eBay) it will get flagged by their auto software and you can expect to either get warnings, restrictions added to your account, or additional charges as you'll be flagged as trying to subvert the auction process and avoid end of listing fees.

It's something I've noticed when selling an item recently, eBay (for obvious reasons) do everything they can to stop you providing contact details to complete a sale outside of ebay.

That's what I'd do.

I like to speak to people before I agree to meet them and do the deal, sort of suss them out as best I can from a phone conversation.

One of the problems with auctions, and buy it now's, is that you've no idea of the person that's going to turn up after you've given them you're home address.

You may find that Ebay still charge you an end fee if you do. They've got wise to people doing this to avoid the final fees so can apply it to adverts that end early.
