Wheels on a 968CS
Discussion
I'm picking up my 968CS end of October
The car comes with the standard body colour 17" rims. I'm also getting with it a spare set of 18" rims from a 964 3.6 Turbo. I intend to use one set of rims for the road, the other for the track. On the track rims I intent to fit some type-R tyres.
So my question is - which ones would you use for which? I currently think the 17" rims would be more suited to the track with type-R tyres on. I've got a feeling 18" tyres may be just too wide for a car with the power of the 968CS, and I may end up with a car that's all grip and no joyful handling, which is what I'm buying the car for.
Would you agree? Any comments/thoughts welcome....

To second UV's comments get rid of 'em I'm pretty sure the offsets and the widths for the Turbo wheels are different to the 968 too, thus nasty & odd handling can result.
If you feel the desire to have a different set of wheels I would either get a set of standard wheels for the track and shove sticky track rubber on then ie Miichlin pilot cup sport or get a decent set of quality race wheels OZ, BBS etc but still in 17 inch. The 968CS has fantastic balance dont destroy that by bunging on huge rims.

Cheers for the advice - makes sense to me. In the back of my mind I figured I could sell the 18"ers if they didn't work out - they're gorgeous looking wheels after all imo.
So looks like I should go find myself a spare set of (lightweight) 17" rims. Sounds like a better route to go down.
Thanks,
SFV

So does anyone know what type of Porsche ABS system the 968CS uses? I know there's been different versions for different cars in the Porsche range.
For example, before I finally decided to go for the 968CS, I was seriously toying between a 964RS and a 993RS. In the end I decided I'd rather have (at this moment in time) a cheaper car to thrash and not mind so much damaging, than have a 993RS at 40K which I'd drive like a pussy for fear of binning it on the track. One of the main reasons to go for a 993RS seemed to be it had a much superior ABS system to the 964RS. I've read quite a few articles on the 968CS but none seem to mention any distiction between ABS systems. I'm a bit ignorant on this subject at present seeing as this will be my first step on the Porsche ladder, although I most definitely want to own a 993RS once I've had my fun with the 968CS.
Any input on Porsche braking systems, in whatever capacity, appreciated.
Cheers,

Later ABS systems will be clever multi-channel systems that will regulate braking better and let individual wheels brake independently etc.
However, this is not a reason to exclude the 964RS from the equation. I have had the ABS working on mine, after weeks of never getting close to activation as the grip is so formidable anyway. The system seems fine, to be honest, unless you expect to do a lot of trackdays in the wet and drive balls out at them. The main argument for getting a 993RS is that they are slightly friendlier and exploitable on the limit, but my 964RS four wheel drifts beautifully, with a ton of feedback, so it's not that much of a rottweiler.
Remember that the 964RS has a host of advantages as well as disadvantages compared to the 993RS (less weight, less cost, revvier and more tuneable engine).
However, if you have 33k to spend, I saw a lovely 993RS LHD in Porsche Post this month, that certainly had me tempted!
