Model 3 Long Range question
Discussion
Soon to order a Model 3 after a test drive (in a performance). As I want a towbar for pushbikes I will go for long range model.
I read that you can get a £2000 performance upgrade which I’d like to do but Tesla Southampton can’t give me a definitive answer as to the availability. Anyone know for sure?

It's called the "Acceleration Boost" and is basically a post purchase software download initiated via the Tesla App. I believe it is £1500 in the UK.I read that you can get a £2000 performance upgrade which I’d like to do but Tesla Southampton can’t give me a definitive answer as to the availability. I did think I would have taken it already, but honestly I am just not that bothered!
Had mine for about 6 weeks now and the shove you get from accelerating even without the boost is more than acceptable!
This 100%. I lease a performance version and as lovely as it is.......I think I would have been happier with the LR.Had mine for about 6 weeks now and the shove you get from accelerating even without the boost is more than acceptable!
Why did I choose the performance? I had no choice - my employer had a list of EVs and there was no other Tesla model or sub-model on that list. M3P or nothing.
The LR will still give you more performance than you can use on the public roads, you still get the premium interior and an additional 20 to 30 miles of real-world range. Doesn't sound like much but it can make the difference between stopping at one more supercharger or continuing and charging at your destination.
You also get the more sensible sized wheels and tyres. I have ridiculously sized 20" matt black/grey wazzock wheels. They do ride quality and noise levels no favours, at all.
I do like my car but I think the LR is a better car on every way except kerbside appeal.
Thanks for your insight, very useful!

Is it settled whether the P3D- stealth is materially different from AWD with boost?
The P- is essentially an LR with double boost.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCNo-05ha0I

So just software differentiating the two, you think? When you could buy it, it was a really strange thing to introduce, it was more like a performance with smaller wheels than Lr with a performance pack so maybe there is more to it. I thought the Lr and performance had identical motors but somebody on Facebook made a fairly strong argument that the M3 Lr and performance motors were slightly different, but whether the P- has LR motors if they are different, or whether you’d even notice is probably the question.
If you’re looking at a P- it would be worth seeing if it has track mode

I agree with this. The shove from the LR is so extraordinary that I would struggle to imagine wanting it faster, and I have had my car 7 months.Had mine for about 6 weeks now and the shove you get from accelerating even without the boost is more than acceptable!
If you are just looking at 0-60 times, then take a closer look. I believe they measured the P from a slightly rolling start, whereas the LR was from standstill to get the 4.2 secs. £2k is a lot of money for something you might not notice, unless of course it isn't a lot of money to you, then go for it :-)
Having driven both I can confirm the LR is more than quick enough for everything you'd ever need, but the Performance is on a different level of brutality and guaranteed to elicit expletives and wide eyes from every passenger who experiences it.
The current £9.5k price gap is rather significant though.
