After being laid-up (ie left on the drive) for the duration of the lockdown my 57reg WK Jeep Grand Cherokee (3L diesel) has developed what sounds exactly like a scuba diver breathing in somewhere behind the dash. It seems to occur at random taking a deep breath for a few seconds and then silence for a bit, then another breath....weird. It didn't used to do it so its something that has happened when the vehicle was not used for 6+ months.

Does anyone have any ideas what could make that sort of noise??

Could well be the air con system - my Cayman developed a noise like that in the passenger footwell when the AC refrigerant pipework was holed...

Thanks, I did a bit more investigation and it only happens when the interior fans are on, the A/C being on or off makes no difference. If I have the fans going and then turn them off then scuba-bloke slowly deflates and is then silent. The noise is coming from the centre of the dash behind the radio just below the windscreen.
