Anyone going to Portsmouth tonight?

7 of us are looking to come down to watch the show/fireworks, but have no idea where to go...

We know it will be packed, and driving into Portsmouth will be hell.

Anyone got any ideas apart from "don't go" ?

You could sit on the top of Portsdown Hill about 7 miles from the harbour and watch the fireworks

I came into to Portsmouth from Caen on Friday and there were loads of foreign frigates etc. moored up in the harbour the most impressive was the Danish "stealth" frigate

Yep, top of Portsdown hill (Fort nelson) should be ideal. Me, MrsHerb and sonHerb are going down there friday evening just to see whats about. Taking binoculars obviously, then a bag of chips on the way home. Sounds like fun.

Problem is this isn't so secretas it used to be. It'll be absolutely packed! Mind you, get there early, have one of Mick's Monster Burgers...

Portsdown hill will be very busy nowhere to park..
If your in Pompey go over to Gunwharf or Southsea along that area... if your in Gosport like i will be(as i live here) i am heading to Fort Gilkicker or stokes bay.
just got back from today watch lots of boats. like ya do and a fly past by lots of helicopters and planes.

Shouldn't be packed friday evening surely? There's nothing official happening then is there? Still, I will try one of Micks Monster burgers, is he a permanent fixture up there?

That _is_ the original. I dont have a tripod so apologies if its a little blurry, it was a long way away from me. BTW yes I know i should set the camera to record in RAW mode not jpg.

Oh right ok, not to worry, I'll have a go anyway, shooting in RAW is a pain in the arse most of the time anyway. BTW I think the blurriness adds to the image personally.
