Hi All,

I am looking at buying a T reg 111s, it would be my first Elise and i do not know too much about them currently. I have the HPI report here, but am looking for some advice from people who know the cars.

T Reg 1/3/1999 (T946 JOG)
111s in Norfolk Mustard Yellow
19000 miles
3 Previous Owners
Dealer History
£12495 with 6 months warrenty

Anyone who can offer any advice, or who knows this car which was first registered in Birmingham, i would appreciate any info.

Cheers
Mat

I don't know the car but the price sounds reasonable from a dealer. Worth checking to see what the warranty covers etc.
Good luck,
Richard.

Mat, just seen that car on Autotrader:
http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=180827247
Don't think it's a 111S model, looks like a standard car. From memory the 111S had different wheels (6 spoke) and headlight covers etc, in which case there may be better value cars out there for you to consider.
But I might be wrong...

Yes, thats the one. I found it on Auto Trader too.

Since calling the garage I am having my doubts. The guy told me its only had 2 keepers, but i think if i bought it i would be the 5th....he also told me it was a 111s.....all this could explain why its not selling.

Think I will go back to Martin at Merritts Amersham and ask him to keep looking. Im in no hurry.

Thanks for the help :-)

Open the boot, 111s has a vvc block, s1 doesnt.

headlight covers and six spoke wheels cross drilled discs should be standard on a 111s.

edited to say if you need any further info/advice

Will do just that,

Looks like it may be a 135 then. I cant see any headlight covers or 6 spoke wheels in the picture.

A factory 135 was only available in blue tinted silver paint, but could be a conversion. My Super 160 looks standard. Have a look at the following link which gives you the low-down on the different models.

Guys,

Thanks for the help, seems im very much in the dark.
Think I will keep my eye open on the ads on this site (which i only discovered today) or keep the dealer hunting for one for me.

I have a budget of £14k which includes a £2.5K trade in. Im not in a massive hurry so i can wait for the right car for me :-) Which in the mean time means the budget will increase.

a 135 with an engine conversion will have a green cover on the block (the twin cam strip bit) and you should be able to confirm it has had an upgrade by calling the factory.

That is not a 111S. Wrong wheels, lights aren't faired in etc.

Do more research mate - there are plenty of cars in your budget. Are you considering private sales or only dealer ones?

Oh, i would definatley look at a private around 12K, I can see buy looking at the ads that there are many out there. Im just uncertain as i do not know much about the car in question. Although the guides have been more than helpful.

When buying also, I would take it to a dealer to look at the chassis or you can do it yourself!(?). If there are any repair marks you will see them, if you know the Elise. Basically any marks, weld or scuff marks, and it has been repaired. Beware of cheap cars.

It would be a good idea to ask for it to have the wheel alignment and chamber checked, checked using lazer equipment on all 4 wheels at the same time.

Even if it is a straight car, get the alignment and chamber done, handling is everything with this car.

Should be okay for looking at chassis, I helped a chap strip a crashed caterham so i have some basic knowledge of chassis.

Could only make 14K with a trade or 12K private......unless i sold my current car first....Might be an idea :-)

wouldnt have thought you'd have much trouble picking up a 111s for 12k, they are just not selling at the mo
defo a buyers market.

I would recommend getting a 111s over a std s1 though.

Saying that i know someone who is selling a t reg s1 in spice yellow, 44k, fsh.who wants to sell quick.I think you would pick up for under 12k.

If your'e interested let me know, ill put you in touch.

Steve,

I would be happy to look and enquire on pretty much anything within my price banding, because i am not desperate to acquire a car quickly i can afford to be more choosey with my purchase. I must admit, after seeing a chap who visits our site often with a mustard yellow 111s with black alloys on, i kinda fell in love with the idea.

Oh to earn more money and buy an S2!!!
