Just bought a CR V

Not the most exotic of motors but I'm impressed.

Traded in a BMW 328i for what I hope will be a much more reliable vehicle.
So far driven 100ish miles and it feels so much more comfy than the BM and with better visibility.

Dealer pics for the moment but will post more pics tomorrow if anyone interested.

I'm in ears

I'm considering either one of these or a Lexus RX-450h sometime possibly over the coming months.

So will be quite curious how you go with it thumbup

We've had one of these (2.0 petrol EX) since 2013, and despite it being the slowest car we've ever had, it's strangely, the one I'm most reluctant to change.

There is some really thoughtful under the skin engineering, that takes you a while to realize.
For example, rear doors that open at 90 degrees (so super easy to load in kids or grownups).
A really big square boot that is plastic lined up to the window, so very resilient to bikes, mud, water etc. Rear camera, parking sensors and a great turning circle all make it fit around you very well.
Second row seating space is great - I'm quite tall so in many cars the rear passengers could get quite cramped - not the case here.
The AWD system isn't going to win any offroad bragging rights, but with decent tyres, it's perfectly fine for a Goodwood quagmire, some deep snow in winter on the Lancashire fells and anything else we've thrown at it.

Of course, being a 2013 model, the infotainment is a bit rudimentary, but that's not a showstopper.

Best way to describe driving it is, well, undramatic. It jut gets on with being a family car, and you never look back and think you've had a great drive, rather it does the job with an absolute minimum of fuss.
Even though it doesn't have a lot of power, it's surprising how fun it is to hustle along and how good it is at keeping momentum. 0-60 can be measured with a sundial (11 secs with the auto box), but it's quite a characterful naturally aspirated engine.
Other family car is an estate with a 5 sec to 60 time, so switching over can be entertaining.

And reliability - apart from consumables and servicing, nothing to report. Uneventful.

So when it comes to be replaced, I'll get another - maybe the hybrid (with a bit more speed). I did think about the Lexus RX450h, but from a size and practicality perspective, the Honda still wins out. And if I went to the Lexus dealer, I'd more likely come out with an LC500.

You mean the Lexus is too big for your needs, or is it practically smaller than the CRV?

Off out later on a landscape, maybe incorporating the CRV photo trip around Seven Sisters.

This may help size wise...

Much smaller inside than the CR-V, but a really lovely place to spend time.

Absolutely love it.

Not as outright fast as the BM but far more comfortable and refined. What the BM should have felt like IMO.

On paper the BM 328i is 0-60 in apx 7 seconds whereas the CRV is 12 ish but to be honest I've not felt I've needed any more oomph, and still has all stuff like cruise control, sat nav, parking camera, bluetooth phone connectivity, heated seats........

I would not hesitate to recommend one.

Had a CRV for 12 years so far...it’s part of the family and the go to car for days out. It may be a bit boring but it’s full of clever design details you don’t realise until you use it. Big comfy seats, great visibility, good off road on the right tyres and huge practical load space.

Evening chaps and fellow H owners! I have a 57 plate accord tourer, it’s up at 156k now and whilst it will keep going it’s getting a little tired around the edges. Did look at a 2014/15 reg Accord but the boot is simply too small.

Therefore a CRV is the natural successor from the Honda stable, Lexus 450 has been looked at (reliability and quality exceed H but I think they are a little too small and infotainment is probably worse than the CRV).

Main benefit of the 57 plate 2.2 Derv is no Dpf, I have read worry stories of dpf costs in accord and CRV with low mileage.

I do about 20miles each way daily and normally a longer run on the weekends or a long run monthly.

Local Indy recommends 2.0 petrol Manual EX, I like the 2.2 and have done 80k trouble free miles in mine. So am thinking a late Rev 2.2 CRV manual EX.

OP what engine/box have you got? And what else did you consider?
I have a E350 estate as the other possible on the list.

My CRV's a 2.0 iVtec 5 Speed Auto.
Got most of the toys the i328 had and I still can't get over how nice it feels to drive.

Personally I would not go near a Diesel or any German car.

No maker can manage a 100% reliable vehicle but I've had better experiences with Japanese, Nissan Almera, two MX5's and a Honda S2000.
I did have two IS200's but could not get on with their "wooden" steering feel, maybe needed some work on the front end?

During my research I saw Honda is having trouble with their diesels, recalls and TSB's.

I didn't really much else on my current list to replace the 328 touring, maybe an RX450 but the load capacity is a way off the CRV.
I was trying to steer clear of SUV's but I'm glad I took the plunge.

SOLD smile

So I'll be after an auto petrol EX from an MD, 2012 onwards.

IIRC the EX is the top specc'd model. Time to do some research. Got a few months yet, so no rush. But plenty of time to swot up on it biggrin

Bringing a thread back from the dead here but,

I ran a 2009 2.2 cdti Ex up to 130k and traded it in for a Mitsubishi shogun earlier this year. I can say the Crv was the most comfortable and reliable car I’d owned. As soon as it was gone we missed it. It was nothing exciting but everything just worked.

I just could not get on with the Shogun so it’s gone and now replaced with a late 2018 1.5 Ex. Absolutely loving it. It has a great level of equipment, very comfy and spacious. Surprisingly good on fuel as well.

Great cars and I’m not sure what else would do the job as well as these

We bought a 2008 2.2 CTDi from new and it’s part of the family now. As others have said, it’s full of small details that road testers never seem to pick up, like the 90 degree rear doors.

Problems…Bluetooth module gave up the ghost, A/C relay gave up the ghost and the left front suspension has clunked for years, despite various bushes being replaced.

Every summer we think of moving it on, but then the rain comes and a three hour drive cross country beckons. Do I get the 911 out or take the CRV….go figure.

I had a 2008 CRV 2.2cdti EX manual and it was a good car, my parents now have it and it's still running well.

I bought a 2013 EX 2.0I Auto but sold it two months later. Lots to like, very quiet and refined engine around town etc but the problem I found was on the motorway. The engine and the old five speed transmission lacks torque, so I was finding myself constantly kicking down to maintain 70/80mph, which would also kill economy.

I've never driven one but I would guess the 5th gen 1.5i turbo will be much better, or the 2.0i mild hybrid.

I've run a CRV for a year now - it's a '17 dull spec 2wd NAVI fairly toyless variant - (but it was ridiculously cheap and came straight off motability) , took me a few months to realise how to drive it remotely quickly coming from a big turbo diesel - boot to 5000 revs before shifting....

Have taken it from 14k to 24k in the year - and.... nothing's gone wrong at all, there's none of the creaks and rattles I'd been used to, it takes every load chucked in it with ease. I've just given it a service that was simplicity itself and done in half an hour...simple, well thought things like 2 spring clips and the air filter is changed made it so easy....

Yes it's dull as dishwater, the infotainment system is limited, did worry about not having parking sensors but it's got the camera that is excellent - car just works, and works very well indeed, very comfy and roomy and no worries about cambelts or more recently the cat being pinched which seems endemic in my area ...

Next door have a Tucson that seems to spend most of it's time having gremlins fixed, OH has got a Kadjar that feels horrible by comparison - my CRV will be staying for a fair old while...

had my 14 plate 1.6 CRV 4 years, completely trouble free
recently considered getting a newer lower miler (82k) but the prices are as they were 4 years ago if not more so im sticking with for the time being.
Wasn't a fan at first, bought primarily for reliability but has grown on me, manual gearbox is fantastic, lots of room but i dont like the rear seat down flat space due to arches, no issues other wise
