Some of you who saw me at the Nats may have had the fortune of me ranting about a noise from the rear of my car.

Anyway, noise, which is a clunk when going from forward to reverse etc, or alternatively sometimes an intermittent squeek on the straight/corners turned out to be a UJ, had a look last night - I think all the needles may have gone sine there's a lot of play in it! So much for the theory that you can't tell it by wiggling them. Glas it was that, has anyone seen the prices of C4 diffs these days...!

Anyway have ordered new ones from Corvette Kingdom today so let's hope they get here tomorrow so I can fit them ready for Hockenheim!

Fran, a handy tip from someone who's been there, when you go to undo the UJ strap bolts, use a proper hex socket (i.e. one with six flat sides), not the multi point ones. I think it's an 8mm socket you need.

If you round off the corners on the strap bolts, you'll be in sheet street.

Cheers Brental - I'll let you know.

Cliff - thanks for the tip - any idea what torque these are done to? And how difficult were yours to remove?

No, that's me that is, Captain Cautious by any other name.

They were't too hard to get out, but because they are so small, 8 mm, use too much torque with a multi-point socket, and hey presto, you've rounded off the corners of the bolt heads.

I did them up by hand with a small socket, not to any torque value, just tight then another tweak for good measure. I can look up the torque values if you want.

Thanks Richard/Captain Cautious/ZR1ForFun, please excuse my huge moronicness. Head hurts! Apologies.

Please can you look up the torque values, before I hang my amazingly well built frame off the end of a bar and chew them off...!!

Fran, I checked the GM Service Manual and the torque values are as follows:

UJ straps on drive shafts(both ends)- 25 lb-ft

UJ straps on prop shaft/pinion gear - 17 lb-ft

Hope this helps.

Just a quick note to say it's job done. Take note - when doing this job MAKE SURE THE VICE YOU HAVE IS BIG ENOUGH!

Corvette Kingdom were great in supplying the parts (came next day) and my pal Rob from work kindly lent garage and some assistance to do the job - result 1am finish and grinning with fixed car. Anticipating this, I took Friday off for a lie in whereas he didn't - sorry Rob!

Cheers all for either info and help or offers of help. I've got various pics of the job, if I ever get time I'll write up a guide but if anyone is doing this and has any questions please don't hesitate to drop me a message.

Brental - yes - see you Thurs. Have lots of snacks ready.
