Used car purchase

Hi all

After some advice here...
I've just bought a 2015 Ford Fiesta 1.0 from a reputable car supermarket.
The car itself fine and in good condition but upon getting home with it last night, I looked at the service book and its last service was in Jan 2018 (24k miles ago)!!

I've asked the sales manager to call me but I'm just wondering what my rights would be here. I never asked to see the service book because I seem to recall the advert I saw for it mentioned it was serviced a couple of thousand miles ago (and I wouldn't expect a garage like them to sell a car being so overdue a service) but the garage doesn't seem to have a copy of the advert which states anything about the service history?

Its very likely that the car has been serviced outside the ford network , its also unlikely to have survived 24K without servicing but as long as the correct high quality oil has been used it will be OK . If any used car is new to you its good practice to do full thorough service .

Reputable and car supermarket (or even dealer) in the same sentence? To state the obvious, if the service history is that important to you, then maybe you should have asked to see it prior to sale. Car adverts are often the stuff of make believe.

But on a positive note, maybe it does indeed have a full history, perhaps the book just wasn't stamped. There was a recent thread on here all about service history and what actually evidences it. Has the dealer replied to you, or did they just reply saying that the advert didn't state FSH?

I commented on another supermarket type thread the other day, some friends bought a 1 year old kuga, they said it will have a full service.... 2 months later its asked for a service! i said it best to get it into ford and get to done, i think a supermarket service would not meet requirements anyway

Even if it's not had a service in that time it most likely will be fine.

You should be able to tell from the colour of the oil whether it needs a service or not, if it's obviously quite black then just get a service done for peace of mind.

General mass market cars are much more tolerant of abuse than we'd give them credit for. A lady that I used to work with quite deliberately didn't bother servicing her cars, she'd buy them new, top the oil up as required and just run them until they broke, normally around 60-80K miles later.

Probably. A poster explained on another thread that the big car hire firms only use main dealer servicing for the posher cars, and that common superminis etc are serviced ( more or less!) By the garage round the corner, or by a mobile guy.I recall a Corsa courtesy car which had a label on the dash ‘this vehicle not to exceed 12k miles.’ No expense for them, then!

Give them a call (don't wait for them to get back to you) explain the situation & you'll probably find they'll pay for the service.
