Sad this. Watched them with my Dad in the late 80's/ 90's.

146 years down the pan just like that. I always remember at school the kids either had united or city shirts, with Macc being the poor relation.

Yes, very sad news unfortunately. I played there for around 5 years in the mid 80's, leaving just after a narrow defeat in the 3rd round of the FA cup to Port Vale who went on to draw Spurs (and beat them !!) in the next round.

Always a good friendly, family atmosphere and the one result I always looked out for on a Saturday after the Chelsea result.

Hopefully the club can be rebuilt at some level to keep football going in Mac.

A week of Gareth Bales wages would've saved the club. Ho hum.

Or if... the club was properly run

It was, until the football league didn't do its job in vetting the new owner.

It says something though, that rather than sympathise with a 146yr old club go under and the subsequent loss to the community - for relatively paltry money - that that is your response.

Has anyone watched the BBC program about the team? Just started it and I think it’s quite good. Robbie Savage comes across likeable I think!

Me and my daughter were at the Winsford United match (they are our local team) that's on the programme and he was getting some stick ha ha! Seemed a decent guy though and he took it in good humour :-)

Saw this last night, worth watching

Its funny how much work it looked like it took to get the club back together and it was 'only £4m'.
I'd be fuming with some of the Macclesfield fans who have that sense of entitlement to slag them off for minor things when you have literally just saved their club.

There is still a team of football players whose home ground is Macc. They are playing Stockport on Tuesday night IIRC.
