I saw in Autocar (don''t ask why I was reading it!) that a new European Law is being drawn up that means if you buy a second hand car (whether from a private or dealer) that for up to 6 months after the sale, if there are any major problems then the seller has the resposibility to replace or repair the problem. This is gonna be interesting for TVR''s I think...

What a stupid idea. Why should buying a 2nd hand car be any different than buying an old sofa out of the back of the local paper? If you are that worried, get a warranty. This reminds me of an article I read in Land Rover Owner magazine years back. Some guy advertised his old Landie for sale as being 'VGC' (which it was for a 20yr old vehicle) and was taken to court by the bloke who bought it when some minor part broke a few months later. The judge/magistrate through the case out.

Umm, old sofas have very little to go wrong with them? A warranty doesn't give you the sort of power to say "Mr Dealer, this car has been a bag of spanners for 5 1/2 months, please take it back. Now." I think this could be a good thing for consumers.

good thing for consumers buying from dealers....bad thing for sellers of second hand cars... cynical hat : "hmm...Ive heard the turbos on these can be pretty expensive to replace and have a limited life...oops, it seems to have 'broken', but thats okay cos its the sellers problem...."
